I know I kept you guys waiting way too long for this reveal. & for those of you who have no clue what I am talking about, let me tell you. Well, about a week ago myself & 5 other bloggers flew to Detroit, Michigan {Yah baby!} To meet up with some amazing people from GMC. We ate lunch at the beautiful Weston hotel and we all met each other for the first time. I didn’t know that in a few short days these ladies would be some of my new amazing friends. After our lunch we sent out on a 5 day journey from Michigan to Georgia on the longest yard sale in the world {The 127 sale}. Each night we stayed in a new city & we would start back on our way early the next morning. On our journey we would be shopping for items to decorate a home for habitat for humanity at the end of our trip in Atlanta, Georgia { Click here to go to Day 1, Day 2, & Day 3 recaps. After day 3 there was no time to blog daily} Did I mention we only had $250 to spend on EVERYTHING in the room that was given to us? Yes. I was given the little boys room. I was so excited because it was so out of my element. The two boys were brothers ages 8 & 13 so I knew I had a large task ahead of me. I wanted to create a fun space for them & also make it feel like it was their space even though they shared a room. So I was off searching yard sales, shopping at habitat for humanity, bartering, & finding deals to give these boys a special room…

First we got acquainted with our brand new Acadia Denalis that we were driving down the 127 sale. O my! This vehicle had it all, & it could fit a lot in them too 😉 The Acadia really adapted to every need we had as far as technology, comfort, and room. & now I sound like a car salesman, hidden talent? No, but really I was so thankful that GMC really gave us the absolute best and took care of us on this trip. I would take an Acadia Denali  on a road trip again for sure! Next we stopped at the Habitat for Humanity in Ann Arbor Michigan…



 

What’s so funny? I don’t get it.

I swear I was a cheerleader in high school.. I blame my lack of vertical on not enough coffee or that the picture was taken after I had jumped higher than everyone else. You pick.

 

After 4 days of traveling, yard sales, bartering, walking, talking, laughing & no sleeping {ha!} we arrived at the Habitat for humanity house. It was so cute & perfect for a family! All it needed was some love. {I will be showing you more of the house later here on the blog} We arrived at the house at 8 in the morning & had only 5 hours to make the house a home for the family.. that included painting furniture, reupholstering, decorating, hanging pictures, EVERYTHING! Excuse the crazy jungle lady hair that I have.. there were more important things going on. Did I mention it was 100 degrees and humid out? We all worked our bootys off, sweat a lot, stressed a little, but we got it done & I’m so proud of us all!!

After we all finished decorating we quickly changed our shirts & headed out front and waited for the family to arrive. They had no idea that we were doing this. How cool is that? Once the family arrived, Chris, the brains behind this whole project with GMC, explained what we had done. Already at this moment the tears started coming. We were all so giddy to show them what we had done inside their new home. {see the video below for the home reveal}

Here’s the boys room. On a $250 dollar budget I was able to buy them all new bedding {All from Target, you know I had to 😉 } and thrift everything else. The room was really tiny so I could not fit the dresser that I got for them in the room or a couple of other things, but it fit both beds which was the most important. Thanks to Holly storywood designs & Brittany Pretty Handy Girl for the nightstand & to Brittany for helping me soooo much with hanging the basketball hoop on the wall. She really is one of the handiest people I have ever met {& the nicest!} I filled the closet with some toys for the boys to enjoy, & of course a ball for their basketball hoop. Their faces were priceless when they saw their space.

These numbers are actually old gas station numbers. These were pricey for my budget {$18 for both}
But I knew they would make a fun statement in the room.

To say this experience was anything less than amazing would be an understatement. I can’t even put into words how awesome it was. Meeting new friends, the road trip, working with GMC & habitat for humanity, visiting different cities, staying in some really cool places, every detail made for a really amazing trip that I will never forget. I hope this family makes many beautiful memories in their new home & I can only imagine the good times the boys will have in their new room!

And a HUGE thank you to Chris, Kelly, Clare, Connie, & the whole GMC crew. Another really cool part about this year was that the girls from last years GMC’s Hidden Treasure Adventure came back to help us on the last day, & boy were they such a big help!!! A huge thank you to Brooke from All Things Thrifty, Brittany Pretty Handy Girl, Lindsey Better After, & Traci from Beneath My Heart.

Want to hear something amazing? Latoya, the new homeowner, sang us a thank you song after we revealed the house to her. How cool is that?? Again with the tears!
