I have been meaning to share this with you guys forever, but I let that whole “it’s not finished” thing get in the way… you know everything in our home is never really “finished” because I always have new ideas on how to refresh and re-share more inspiration with you guys… the ideas are always flowing! Anyways, today I wanted to show you one part of the built-ins today from our kitchen that were recently install on the other side of our kitchen…

First, a little look at what this space looked like before:

A little history on this space… This is the other side of our kitchen & after living in the house for a while we realized we needed more storage/ work space so after a lot of brainstorming we came up with the idea to build some floor to ceiling storage of built-ins and cabinets combined with a counterspace for extra work area.  All of this would be around our indoor grill which was already in the house when we moved in. Honestly it’s one of the coolest parts of the kitchen, but it was also one of the hardest to work around. I’m really happy with how this is all working out right now. Everything on the shelves is useful yet beautiful & I’ve discovered recently that I love having open shelving because it keeps me tidy and organized. Give me too many cabinets and I have a tendency to stuff and hoard. 

Today I’m only showing you one part of the built-ins because I really want to show you what this space will look like in a few days after we make a few quite changes, but this little corner won’t be effected by that.. well, kind of. See that butcher block? I will be replacing that with a breakfast table that’s a little smaller & will be more useful for our little family. It will still provide a work space all while not taking up a ton of room & it will serve more a of a dual purpose than than the butcher block. No worries though, we will be keeping it. On these shelves I store my small appliances from the blender to the toaster to the water heater & more. There are plugs in the back of the built ins so that they can all be plugged in and used here and they do not need to be moved. Mixing bowls, spices, cookbooks, storage canisters. Of course in between all of the useful items I have some of my antique finds & decor as well per usual… I love that these shelves can be both aesthetically pleasing and function for our family at the same time. That’s cozy for me here in the kitchen!

Is it done? Nope. We still need hardware & do small things like brick or tile the inside of the grill… The stone isn’t bad, but I kind of want to do a little something with it. More on that later… I really didn’t want to go one day more without showing you guys this space because it’s turning out to be one of my favorite spots in the house & also I know this time of year we get caught up in a lot of the seasonal things, but this everyday stuff is pretty important to us as well! I will be back soon to show you more of this space, but for now I hope our kitchen built-ins inspire you in some small way.. be sure to pin for later inspiration!
