It is absolutely no secret how much I love creating new and fun designs for the dining table, or tablescapes. I put together all of the looks over the years to hopefully inspire you for this years fall table design. Looking at all my spaces I decided, before I share this years Simple Fall Dining Table, I wanted to cover some basic design steps and share how to decorate a Dining table for fall, regardless of style. For me a well designed fall dining table, from complex to simple, is a good balance of seasonal elements, texture, and ensuring you have a cozy warm tone felt around the space. So let’s break those three steps down…

Seasonal Elements

This is the easiest step, but I challenge you to find seasonal elements that are outside the norm to complement your main elements. Examples of seasonal elements are fall harvest items like pumpkins, gourds, corn, corn stalks, mums, apples, pears, kale, wheat stems and earth-tone foliage. Try a mix of some of these items for an added fall touch like mixing pumpkins & hydrangeas or fall leaves & apples.

Texture

I want to dive deeper into the texture in interior design, because it is one of my favorite elements in design. To me, as an interior design blogger, I like to ensure that my texture hits on the sense of touch from simply looking at a space. For fall I find my textures in a lot of the stems we use, like the earth-tone foliage, wheat stems, and cozy table runners, table clothes, and thick napkins. If you are looking off the beaten path, think of fall fashion, like velvet or felt pumpkins, plaid seat cushions, and thick knit throws to substitute in as an alternative table runner. Mixing textures is the key to making your space cozy anywhere including the dining room. Think of textures from your lighting all the way down to the rug on the floor. Mixing textures like wood, glass, fabrics & more to up the cozy factor on your table.

Cozy Warm Tones

This is more of an inherited step in to my fall dining table, but if you style your space and just feel like something is off, ask your self if you are feeling the cozy warm vibes throughout the space. Ways you can change this is by swapping out clear glass vases with vintage amber bottles. It captures the light and quickly warms up the space. Other ways are ensuring you have earth tones like that of a wood table or muted green and muted orange pumpkins to complement the white ones. Or add in a stack of vintage terra-cotta pots to break up dried green foliage. Cozy warm tones can also be brought in with textiles like pillows, tablecloths, & throws.
