You guys know that I love to play around with faux floral arrangements. It’s not because I’m good at it & it’s not because I know what I’m doing, but it’s all because it’s one of those creative things that is so enjoyable for me where I get to shut my mind off & get lost in some pretty things. This weekend I wanted to play around and make a fall floral arrangement so I opted to style one in a lovely antique crock that I have in our kitchen by our new cabinets. I know it’s not even fall yet, but I LOVE to share fall a little earlier here on the blog to hopefully inspire you for when you start to decorate for the cozy season. Also, this one is more of a late summer into fall floral arrangement & you can make yours for any season. I’m not a pro florist, but I have so much fun with it so I wanted to share how I make my floral arrangements so you can enjoy it in your home as well. Here are some quick tips I use when putting together my floral arrangements that I hope make this a a fun “turn your mind off” creative activity for you as well… 

1- pick your florals – I’m working with faux here, but you can totally go real! Pick your seasonal florals at your local craft store, online, or use faux floral stems that you already have. Gather your seasonal stems up & get ready to pretend you are a florist. You can find super affordable stems [HERE] on the blog.

2- choose a pretty vessel – Step out of the box with this one. You could use a standard vase, but choose a basket, crock, bowl, or an antique find to make your arrangement unique to your home.

3- think of variety & texture – This is the key to a good looking arrangement! Variety of texture & color is what makes your arrangement interesting. Think of mixing small buds, smooth leaves, textured leaves, large blooms, fruit stems, greens, & colorful buds… a variety of stems will make your arrangement look complete & intentional.

4- play around – Start playing around with the stems in the vessel. This can be intimidating, but don’t let it! Just remember nothing is permanent so don’t be afraid to experiment. I love trying new things with different stems to see how they act and look in different places in the vessel. It’s so crazy how the same stems can look so different when used in different ways and in different vessels. TIP: Use a floral frog or floral foam to keep your stems in place at the bottom of your vessel if you want a more fixed formal look. I do this quite often, but for this one I wanted a more relaxed look & quite frankly didn’t have any lying around. You can see one I made with a floral frog [HERE].

5- think of balance & movement– For this arrangement I started with the long pear branches hanging over the side of the vessel and moved in to the center. I loved the look of the branches hanging over the sides and the movement it added to the arrangement. I also love the balance of the pears that draw your eye side to side. Consider the weight on all sides of your arrangement and make them equal weights visually. Make sure there are no bare spots & if there are just play around some more. 

6- Add some interesting final touches– For your final touches play around with the arrangement some more & consider adding an interesting & unexpected touch to your arrangement can make your DIY floral masterpiece your own… In this case I popped a little fall gourd onto the top of the floral arraignment & it made me fall in love with it even more. 

So that’s it.. I mean I wish we could make floral arrangements together, but I hope this blog post with some tips will be good enough for now.
