We found this antique four poster bed years ago when we lived in North Carolina. This bed belonged to the first doctor of New Bern, North Carolina. We knew we needed this bed when we first saw it… This is our first home big enough for the bed. Always wanting to bring it back into our home we dug it out of storage a week or so ago… We are so excited it fits in our farmhouse. We really love the style of this four poster bed but we knew it needed some love & retouching. The finish on the posts is really worn out so we are excited to bring new life into this antique bed in our master bedroom.
We wanted to paint the posts white, anytime you are painting an antique piece like this it is so important to set a good foundation for your paint. We primed the bedposts using KILZ® 3 PREMIUM Primer. KILZ® Primer will keep the old varnish hidden & prevent bleeding. Bleeding happens when you add a coat of paint and see things seeping through from underneath the paint. Primer is such an important step to setting a good foundation for your paint. From our experience with antiques – the varnishes and sealers they used way back then tend to bleed through your paint if you don’t use a primer. We want to prevent bleeding from coming through to save ourselves time. With antiques or projects like this, we always prime our piece before getting started.
After using our KILZ® Primer, we went in with the KILZ COMPLETE COAT® PAINT in WHITE WING LJ260 to revamp our antique bed. White Wing is one of my favorite white paints and I love the way it turned out. The white bedposts make the room still feel bright and airy but also make the antique piece really fit my style and taste. Seriously, how cozy does this bed look? … I want to jump right in.

The bed is sooo inviting! Working with an antique bed, did you have to use a custom size mattress? Just wondering , as I have an antique bed I want to adapt to a queen-sized mattress.

A nice change of pace would an update re the animals on your farm… the sheep, guinea hens, cats, etc.
It’s been ages since any mention, yet alone photos, of the sweet animal members of your farm/family.

And as beautiful as it is, I beg you not to promote”” Down Filled Products “”. It is an extremely cruel trade. Geese suffer horrible pain, because they are plucked while fully conscious ? it’s a barbaric practice and we can All do our part in making it a trade of the past. Thank you. It’s unfortunate that you use this site as a mouthpiece for your special interest. This post had nothing to do with down filled products. We don’t need you to tell us what to buy or how to live. You should get your own blog if that’s what you want to do.
