I was really sick of not having family photos up anywhere in our house so we FINALLY got around to it! We toyed around with a couple of ideas but we landed on building these picture ledges. This wall is really big so I wanted something that would fill up a bunch of space … A gallery wall is the perfect fit & makes it super easy to switch it up throughout the year. So making the DIY picture ledge felt like the best way to easily switch out my frames & photos.

I bought a bunch of these brass frames from Target [HERE] to put on the ledges in a few different sizes. I used a mix of 11×14, 8×10, and 5×7 frames for this gallery wall. There were a few reasons I really loved these frames … 1. I love the large white matting in the frame … 2. The brass is the perfect warm pop against the white … 3. They come in a bunch of sizes which was perfect for my gallery wall. Additionally, as a bonus, these frames are going to cover up our thermostat and alarm system which was always kind of an eyesore for me!

I got the HP Office Jet Pro 9025 [HERE] from Staples to easily print out family photos to go in our gallery wall. I love that this printer is wireless so I can print directly from my phone. And it can connect to your Instagram or Facebook to print photos from there also! All of the photos I’ve printed for the photo gallery are taken from my iPhone … The camera on the iPhone is really good quality. I love that the printer is easy to use & prints out super high-quality photos. One fun feature is that I can send photos from my phone to the printer from anywhere even if I’m not at home!

The trough DIY is so very simple. You will need two 1×2 and one 1×3. Depending on your placement you may need drywall anchors, but if you have shiplap like we do, the shiplap will hold these troughs perfectly.

Pre-drill four evenly spaced holes in one of the 1×2. You’ll want to drill these on the upper third of the 1×2. Attach the 1×2’s to the outside edge of the 1×3. Place the pre-drilled 1×2 side towards the wall. And screw it directly to the wall. Thats it! You can make it less of a focus point by painting it the same color as the wall, as we did. Or if you have selected a nice stainable wood, you can add a pop of earth tones.

For our space, it worked best for our shelves to be 4ft long and spaced 18in apart. You can adjust these measurements to best fit your space though!
