Usually on Mondays or Tuesdays I will do a “Weekend Flea Market Finds” blog post, but this week I forgot to shoot my haul at home & I spent the entire day at our shop re-doing my booth in our mercantile side of the shop. So, this weeks flea hall is documented here from my booth at our shop! Our store, The Found Cottage has an original side to it that is 6,000+ square feet of retail where 20+ vendors have their stuff styled all together throughout the shop.
We now have a new side of the shop called the mercantile that has 15+ vendors all in separate booths & it’s 95% vintage. I have a booth there with my friend Abby who I also own the shop with. We both have very different styles so it’s a fun, unique, & challenging to mix our styles together in a small space, but today I was really excited what we came up with for our first summer booth refresh of the year. We were inspired by the upcoming fourth of July holiday & really played off nautical and patriotic vibes throughout the whole booth. of course after a day of sweating and hard work my little man came to visit and check it out…
Lately I’ve been picking up a lot of Americana items like baseballs, sports equipment, nautical paintings, rusty items like horse shoes, old signs, & much more. Abby found a bunch of amazing American flags, antique bottles, & tons of other fun finds like my favorite of them all… vintage tape measures. We came together and combined all of our items to create a very apothecary style Americana booth reset for the kick-off to summer & we couldn’t be more happy with how it turned out. My only regret? The lighting in this side of the shop isn’t the greatest so I feel like my photos do not do it justice… but that just means you have to come see it in person!
The thing about having a booth is that well, it’s a lot of work. First you find the items then you haul the items home, then you clean the items, then you price the items, then you haul the items to a shop or booth, & then you style the items, & then… well, you get it. It’s a lot of work, but if you love it… you love it. & I truly love it! My body hurts so bad from lifting all the heavy furniture today, but looking at these photos makes it so worth it. I’ve said it before, but my design degree is used in so many unique ways from using our house as a pallet here on the blog to help inspire & assist you, but it’s also used at our shop to style various spaces. It’s definitely not traditional, but I’ve never been a traditional kind of girl.

I always love your displays – but I think this one might be my favorite one ever!! You guys have some awesome finds and I love how you are able to meld your styles together. My only wish is that you were not so far away!!
What do you do when someone buys a big part of the display? Is that difficult? Cope looks so happy in the pictures!

One quick question – what about the smell of old stuff? Seems like when i buy vintage or antique stuff….the smell drives me nuts. I’ve tried all the tricks I’ve seen on Google, but so often the musty dust ball smell just lingers. You guys are just so cute, I wish I lived near your store – we’ve had my 2 favorite antique/vintage stores close near me, and I have to drive over an hour now to shop for fun stuff….

Is that baby loved or what! So cute. And I just love the way you have handled Fourth of July. It is probably my least favorite holiday for which to decorate because I just don’t like primary colors, but playing up the Americana instead of the flag colors really makes a difference. Do you find all those old bottles on the beach or do you do something artificial to make some ordinary ones become that way? (and if so, what would it be?) I collect sea glass in small pieces since several years and I’m actually looking for an idea to put them nicely together instead of cumulate them in dozen various vases: should I glue them on my tub’s soil? But they would loose a lot of their transparence… Should I put them in sanwitch between two flat window glasses? You might have a brilliant idea, I’m sure…
