I preach a lot about being content in the world of social media. I say things like “Be yourself” “don’t worry what others are doing on instagram” & so on.. well, I have to admit that I fall victim to the comparison game quite often. Like, a lot. I look at others who built a beautiful custom home & I get a little jealous and have a moment of regret like maybe we should have done that and then we wouldn’t always be living in construction. Then I quickly remember that we did that… & it wasn’t for me. I love the adventure of a fixer-upper & in those moments I need to check myself & preach to myself that we all have different journeys & this fixer-upper farmhouse of ours was something that I’m so thankful for. So what do I do when those moments happen? Do something fun! We have big plans to put doors on either side of our fireplace someday, but we just aren’t quite ready for that big project yet because it’s one of those unpredictable ones. The ones where there is a lot of steps & unknown things are bound to come up when you dig into your walls. So, in the mean time I wanted to make the space where the doors are going to be pretty…

Ok, so it’s far from being done, but if you remember this space looked like this a short while ago…

We wanted to give either side of the fireplace a makeover so we I ordered some wallpaper from Wall Paper Direct & Jose hung it like a pro! It’s even the real deal wallpaper so I was extra proud. In these photos I have wall sconces hanging in the middle, but they won’t be there I was just testing some things out in the spot. We ripped out the bookcases that were on either side of the fireplace & Jose put shiplap under the wallpaper section as well. I wanted to bring some pretty interest to this back wall as it can sometimes get lost in the mix. I found this gorgeous wallpaper months ago & fell in love but didn’t have a spot for it. It’s a little much for our house in an entire room so we decided to put it in these pre-trimmed area and it worked out perfect!

I’m still deciding what to put in these spaces below in the mean time, but more on that later! We still have to paint the shiplap, replair the floor, style the wallpapered walls, & more… I’ll be back with an update very soon! This post is to show you progress and that not every space has to be finished to bring you joy. Sometimes we are too curated and only showing the finished spaces, but a lot of them look like this… I even shoved the tools behind that chair just so you know.
