Happy first real week of the new year! I know many of us are getting back to the grind today from school to work to all the things in between. I’m not going to lie that I love the beginning of this week because it feels like the actual start of the new year and a time to really start freshening up. This past weekend Jose and I spent a lot of time cleaning and organizing here on the farm. One major thing that I did was gave our kitchen a little deep clean that it so desperately needed. As I cleaned our little farmhouse kitchen I was inspired over & over again by the fresh start that January brings to keep going and keep freshening every room in our home. In the middle of cleaning up I decided to snap a few photos to share with you guys today before I finished & before the sunshine went away…. I wanted to share our winter kitchen with you to hopefully inspire a fresh start for you you in your homes…
Our kitchen isn’t “done” but I’m loving the direction it’s heading. For winter I’m loving the fresh greens above the sink on the shelf with all of the white dishes. The pops of gold are great for every season, but they look especially good this winter against all the fresh whites and greens. The warm wood tones in the kitchen warm the space up against the cold temperatures outside. I usually have something on our island, but today I was feeling the freshness of it all & decided to keep it simple at least there. On top of the fresh green garland above the sink that I kept up from Christmas because I loved how wintery it was against the white plates, I added a lot of little greenhouse plants in the kitchen to have the space come alive like a mini fiddle fig & a rosemary plant along with a large aloe plant. I’ve been craving all the greenery lately & I love fresh greens in the kitchen in all season.
Ok… back to cleaning. I’m not sure I will ever get rid of pine needles on my floor our stuffed animal guts from Winnie’s play time off our floors, but it’s getting cleaner! This is our winter kitchen & how it looks today. I was hoping to have a new stove a year after we purchased our fridge, but I haven’t decided on one yet though I feel like I’m getting close! I finally found one in budget that fits our style & I’m so excited to share it with you guys hopefully soon! We also have a few changes and modifications we need to make to the cabinets, but they work & that’s all that really matters at this moment. All in time my friends!! Your kitchen is perfection! So warm & inviting, & every detail is spot on!
The house we just moved into has kitchen tiles that are a textured dirt brown. Floors are not really a priority at this moment since we have so much other work to do. The original color/theme from the previous owners was Romeo & Juliet in Verona. Green stain in and out of the cabinets and on the doors/trim, ecru/bone countertops that matched the walls and sink. My hubby painted the kitchen in a tuxedo style and it came out lovely! But those floors are just horrid. So I picked up some exterior patio paint and a can of primer in the same color white we did the cabinets and walls (Behr Sleek White). He is totally against painting white floors in the kitchen. I just showed him your wood painted floors and I think that helped my case. He did like them. It helped that you have indoor dogs and live on acreage like we do here in Texas. Eventually we’ll rip them up but for now, I’ll be ecstatic with the paint. He did say he will give it a gym floor urethane finish. 🙂

It was not too long ago that you were down to the bare walls/ceilings/floors in there so it is fabulous to see how much you all have done. All the white is stunning; it is inspirational to see how it all came together, Liz! I have one question: how much of the work did y’all do yourselves vs. using your contractor? Oh also how much of your designing work came directly from you and not her/him? Though we cannot as of yet, move forward w/ ripping out all the old cabinets and walls I am grateful for this room in our home, on our farm, as well. Patience, afterall, is a virtue!
Pretty! I love the wood island and the gold metals warming up all the white. And I like your plants. I am trying to get a few more plants in my house. I only have some tiny succulents. I don’t have a lot of room, but would like to add some of that fresh green inside my house. Thanks for the ideas!

Its a Samsung, I copied and paste the pic into a page folder (Mac) then enlarged it. and Lo and behold there it was, below the oven door.

Hi Jill, I think I read somewhere that she had the ORB in the laundry room and loved it so much that she got the brass for the kitchen. ORB is still cool, no worries! How do you feel about the plastic control on the sprayer? I really want to go ahead and get this one but I’m worried the sprayer is flimsy and might break or become easily stained by water scale. Liz had the exact same faucet pictured in this post, only in oil rubbed bronze in her kitchen. You can see some of her previous photos. She didn’t have it very long and replaced it with the gold.
So far, the sprayer control is just fine. I love the faucet and actually prefer the oil rubbed bronze. It’s so pretty and timeless. – Jill
