We have now been in the house for about a month. Wow! It feels like we have been here for no time at all yet it feels like we have been here forever. We are in full construction mode in the house & I have a feeling it’s going to be like that in parts of the house until forever, but the weird thing about right now is that there is no ‘finished area’ which means that I’m not able to decorate a whole lot. Don’t get me wrong, I love the demo, I live for the DIY projects, but my soul kind of thrives on putting together vignettes & my happy place is putting finishing touches on things. Last week I shared with you our painted piano [here], that was such a fun project for me, but I felt like I couldn’t really decorate it because we haven’t even started demo & the makeover process on the room it was in…. HOLD IT RIGHT THERE LIZ. Practice what you preach! I am always telling everyone to enjoy the process & to make it work while you have to, to work with what you have. There is only two of us working on this big ol’ farmhouse so it’s going to take time to have even one finished space. What was I thinking? Ok, so this living room isn’t “made over” yet & it could be a while before we start, but that doesn’t mean I can’t decorate it in the mean time & enjoy it in the moment as is. So, I decorated the piano & for a few minutes it brought me so much joy to style it & so I thought I would share what I came up with…

I know, a rare look at lights on in our home. I rarely show that for no reason at all, but these lamps are a focal point on this piano & a must in this room! This living room is MASSIVE [It was converted from the old garage] & there is only one light on the opposite side of the room so I decided to add my glass jug lamps from Pottery Barn [find them here]. You can also see how we made the DIY farmhouse bench at the piano [here]. I styled it with a sign from House Of Belonging, some antique seltzer bottles & legs, & of course a magnolia wreath.

So, I worked around the old alarm system, the oak, the paint color that I didn’t choose, the carpet, the ceiling, & all things that I will change someday. BUT GUESS WHAT? I enjoyed the process of decorating around those things & I love the way it looks for now. We can’t always live in the exact spaces we want. This isn’t some show on HGTV where you are living in your dream house in a week. It takes time, effort, talent, & unfortunately money. So, do a little at a time of the big stuff & make it yours in the mean time.




Can you imagine creamy white walls, white trim, black doors, & new flooring behind these chairs? All the heart eyes! For now I can dream about that all while enjoying what our farmhouse living room looks like in the mean time while we work on a different room in the house. This room is 4th in line or 5th.. but who is counting? I hope you enjoyed seeing how I styled our piano & that it inspired you in some small way.
