You guys!!!!!! Something super exciting happened this past weekend. I still can’t believe it. So rewind a little. Before we even put an offer in on this house a few months ago as we were touring it for the first time & my feet were walking over the heavily padded carpet my mind started wandering to what could be under all the layers of flooring I was on top of. I had to know what was under the carpet right then and there, but knew that it was highly inappropriate to do when you are in someone else’s home. Right?  Fast forward to when we moved in, which seemed like a year after we put the offer in, & I had all these hopes that in the first weekend all of the carpet would be ripped up in the house… I’m truly funny sometimes. That obviously didn’t happen. With moving, life, & tons of other work that needed to be done the floors were the last thing on my mind. BUT, this weekend there was a moment where Jose & I were not doing anything & we exchanged this look & we both knew… it was time. Time to rip up the carpet in our farmhouse dining room…

So here is what we started with. Our farmhouse was built in the 1840’s but has been renovated & added onto a few times so we had no idea what was hidden under the renovated areas. Honestly the carpet was not bad at all! You all know me though.. I just don’t do carpet. Big rugs? yes. Carpet.. it’s just not very Liz Marie. So we rolled the carpet up, ripped up the padding, & then started ripping up the subfloor & this is the first spotting of the original flooring…

It was about midnight when we exposed this flooring, but there was a lot of celebrating. We were in shock. The flooring needs a lot of work & we aren’t sure what we are going to do with it, but none the less.. We were thrilled! After getting this little chunk of subfloor we realized there was an entire dining room of subfloor that had to be ripped up. So the next day we were back at it with a nail puller, pry bars, & hammers…

Seriously, so much work! Jose blows my mind at what a hard worker he is. I would take breaks & he literally never stopped. I think he was more determined than I was to expose the whole floor. We finally got up all the subfloor & now we need about a week off until we can look at these floors again because of what a big job that was. Here is what the floors looked like today…

Oh the stories these floors could tell. I actually got chills walking on them for the first time. I know, strange, but it’s just so much history & I find that fascinating. I have dreamed about this day for so long. Not only to rip up that carpet, but to own a home with history. I didn’t know when that would happen, but I knew it would & here we are living the dream. Now, the biggest question is, what are we going to do with these floors? That’s for another day. We could paint, we could stain, but they need a little work before anything else.
