Eeeeeeeek! I can’t believe we have completed one little project in our big ol’ farmhouse! We painted the trim & the walls in our tiny little sunroom. We started in this room because it seemed to be the “easiest” place to start & we knew we would be spending most of our time in this space so we wanted to get a start on it. This sunroom is far from being finished, but painting was a huge step in making it more us or as some would say more “galvanized”. Before we got started this is how the sunroom looked…

I went out on a limb on this project & tried a “new to me” paint for the trim & the walls in the sunroom. For the trim we went with the furniture & cabinet paint from Magnolia Home in true white semi gloss. It turned out amazing! Thankfully because I didn’t want to paint it again. The Magnolia Home paint line is a product by Kilz & since I love Kilz that’s why I just went for it. I figured the “furniture & cabinet” paint by Magnolia Home would adhere to the wood trim better than their regular latex wall paint as well. To paint the trim I simply cleaned the boards quickly with “TSP” which you can find at any hardware store & then painted the trim with the cabinet & furniture paint. The trim needed about two layers with a few touch ups throughout the room. The paint was really easy to work with & self leveled over all of the texture of the oak & it gave a perfect even coverage. My biggest fear of painting the trim was that you would see all the texture of the wood through the paint & with this product we didn’t… thank goodness!! So far the paint has held up well on the rim & beadboard of the room & there has been no bleeding of the wood or any issues like that. The one con of painting the trim with the furniture & cabinet paint was that it dried quicker for us than a normal latex paint & at times it made it difficult for us to touch up, but we learned to work with it after a while.

There is VERY little wall space in this sunroom. There is a little sliver of wall on opposite ends of the room above the slider & above the window, but the rest is trim. For the wall space I chose the color shiplap from Magnolia Home Paint in satin & it’s pretty my favorite neutral weathered white ever. I wanted a tiny bit of contrast between the trim and the wall color & for this house I didn’t want all stark white walls like we had in our last house. It took two coats of paint to cover the walls completely which I feel like is pretty standard for paint so nothing new there.

So there it is! Our sunroom all painted & ready for the next step in the makeover. We are going to switch the fan out & hang some things on the wall soon. The flooring will change eventually, but that will come when we start re-doing the kitchen because we have some plans for it that I will share later. I am thinking I should lay a rug down under the coffee table though. More updates to come soon in this space!
