1. I think you are right about the yellow-ish tones of the 2 paint colors. The farmhouse will look great all white! Are you painting the barn? I hope not… I LOVE the red, but YOU have to do whatever makes YOU happy. Best of luck on your big project.

    Eeks…I like the blue.

  3. Kay says:

LOL @ “that being said … WE’RE PAINTING THE FARMHOUSE!”
    Funny stuff.
I’m too indecisive re: the whites + cannot help, but I can share this.
We, too, have whites (our kitchen cabs, the bathroom woodwork)
We color matched the existing whites (like our kitchen cabs).
Is there already a white on your exterior that you could color match?
    Good luck!

Can’t WAIT to see! I LOVE a white farmhouse! My choice is Behr White! I agree that white dove looks yellow…and it always has in my house also. Good luck and make sure you post lots of pics! I love your blog and all of your projects!! 🙂 Happy Monday!

  5. Brit says:

I like that idea! It’s hard to tell from small swatches on the house what might look best, just cause the last two look so similar to me in color–so in that regards I think either would look great! Although color matching it to something white on the house you may not need to paint would be a cool option!

I figured the blue wouldn’t last too long–honestly I’m excited to see it in white! I think the blue is cute, but not you. Can’t wait!

  6. Susan says:

I like the Behr white the best too. We actually have the Polar Bear white in our bedroom and in that space it looks a little more off-white, could be the creams and tans in the room that do that but it doesn’t look like a crisp white. We have a small 1819 farmhouse and we resided it 2 years ago in a blue a little deeper than yours. The house was a light gray when we bought it so I got used to that color tone on it. In a few years we are buying my husband’s grandfathers 1880’s farmhouse (she’s just a baby :)) , it will really be our dream home too. It is white with blue shutters, I think we are going to keep that color scheme like the house in the Notebook! 🙂 So fun watching your journey, it reminds me of us! 🙂

  7. shannon says:

Behr White gets my vote! It looks the most neutral of the swatches. The blue looks nice but white will really help the house stand out against all your lovely green Midwestern trees and grass!

What will you do for your trim and shutters?

  8. Jessica says:

My initial reaction was the Silky White, but I love a warm white. I get a little nervous going to bright white because it feels cold to me. That being said, this is YOUR house, and you should pick the color you love! A white farmhouse is gorgeous, so really I don’t think you can go wrong!

  9. Nicole B says:

I vote Behr White! Its going to be beautiful!

  10. Stel says:

I totally get your qualms with the whites. I once stood in our local hardware store at the computer so they could show me the formulas of my favourite paint range…so I could discard the whites with yellow undertones! And your favourites does change from place to place. I had to change my go-to interior neutral when moving 300 km southwards, found a new one, and my whiteish neutral also look different now since moving another 1500 km south towards the coast – totally different soil type and vegetation, changing the light and how things look inside and out. I think your Behr white will look great.

    I’M UPSET!!!! lol ;D
i love a blue house with a red door…. dream!!! but of course, YOUR house has to be white, duh 😀 😀 😀
can’t wait to see what happens, and so excited for you!!! <3

  12. Erika Bault says:

I’m all about white too! Can I ask, is your siding vinyl or wood? Our house is tan vinyl but I would love white.

  13. Sandi Mayfield says:

I love the idea of white. I am no help when it comes to choosing, but I’m sure you will get the perfect one. I look at your pictures and I try to figure out how I’m going to break it to him that I want to find a farmhouse to buy. I’m not sure he’s going to take that well. I think we are too old to take on a huge project, but I can live vicariously though you. Love it! Have a blessed day.

  14. Jenn says:

It will look gorgeous and classic as a white farmhouse! We just had the exterior our our house painted and I was truly shocked by the difference it made. Even though we still have 70s architecture, at least the color is current and fresh now! Agree with you on the whites – I lean towards the Behr White as well. Not too blue, yellow, or pink. Can’t wait to see the transformation!

  15. Love the color choices! I’m partial to the Polar Bear white! I’ve always wanted to own a white farmhouse with a bright red door and stained wood shutters.

What color are you guys going for with the shutters?

  16. MimiG2002 says:

Oh, I’m probably in the minority here, but when I first saw the pictures of your new home, I thought “it would be a perfect white farmhouse”. So, I’m so glad you’re going white. I actually like the Behr White, just looks white, no notable undertones, just white.
I love shutters painted in a rich charcoal gray with white. Guess what = that’s how my parents farmhouse was painted. The apple never falls from the tree.. 😉
Love the red pop of the door, although it may need to have the shade of red deepened a tiny bit. But then again, maybe not.
It will be gorgeous against the green grass and the bright blue sky.
Can’t wait to see the “new farmhouse”.

  17. Megan says:

Although I love the blue I think it will look great in white as well 🙂 I am liking the Behr White and the Behr Polar Bear

  18. Lauren Smith says:

Behr White gets my vote as well! We are currently painting our farmhouse in Texas white as well. We built it from the ground up to look like an older farmhouse. We have Hardie board that is primed in a yellowish color. I have dreamed, like you, of a white farmhouse pretty much all of my life! Your blog is my favorite, and it is so inspiring! I was looking this morning at your progress for inspiration to go back outside in the TX heat and paint, and you definitely have given me the inspiration! You have also inspired me to start a blog about our home journey. Thanks, Liz Marie, for your contagious attitude, heart, and passion!
