I am one of those people that CAN NOT watch HGTV or go on Pinterest too often. Why? Because my brain will get overwhelmed. I already have too many ideas, too many project lists, too many things going on in my head so watching HGTV or going on pinterest will only flood my little head. BUT there are some things that I have seen in passing on Pinterest that I want to try. I saw [this pin] from Country Living & had it saved for over a year wanting to try it & I finally did today… a year later. & of course I had to share the outcome of this project & how I made it my own. Here is my DIY picture frame terrarium. Well, I made two so here they are…

I actually made two of these little guys & did a different paint job on each to show the different looks you could get. To make this terrarium I went to the dollar store & bought [4] 4×6 frames, [2] 5×10 picture frames, & [2] 8×10’s. I also used tape, spray paint, & hot glue which I already had. So this basically cost me $8 to make. Not bad for a lovely little terrarium. You can head to the pin to see how it’s made in tons of details, but basically I dismantled all of the frames & spray painted just the frame part & threw alway all of the paper & backings to the frames. After the frames were dry I started to put them together to make the terrarium. I attached the [2] 5×10’s for the smalls sides to the [2] 8×10’s for the larger sides in a rectangle fashion using hot glue on all of the seams. For the roof I put all [4] 4×6 frames in a square layout & put tape in the middle seam between the [4] 4×6 frames for the top of the terrarium & then propped it up on the other frames. & hot glued all of the seams to form the roof. Does this make sense? I hope so, again for the full great tutorial you can go [here]. After you have assembled all the frames together you can put the glass back in the frames & get to styling. For the one in the kitchen I used a matte white spray paint & for the one in the living room I did the same thing I just added a dark wax to finish it off.

My thoughts on this project: It was super fun to finally try it, the hot glue was a little messy & shows a little too much for me, I would love to try it again and try better at being cleaner with the glue, & I think it’s an amazing alternative to expensive terrariums. I mean $8? You can’t beat that! I hope this helps some of you that have been looking for a terrarium, but either couldn’t find one for the right price or couldn’t find one that you love.  It’s fun to style them & use them in different areas of the house. Also, it’s fun to customize your own & give it your own look to match your decor. I styled one in the kitchen with some pieces from my recent Gable Lane Crate & one in our living room on our coffee table. You could use one in a bathroom, on a patio, & so much more.
