I have been so excited to share our winter home with you guys! I was excited for a few reasons, but one of the main reasons was because taking down the Christmas decor can be really hard every year because the house feels really bare & empty, but I wanted to show you that winter decor can be cozy and inviting as well. We took our Christmas decor down the day after Christmas because we were ready to simplify our home decor & rid our house from the clutter although our Christmas decor did make us happy. I know everyone has a different opinion on when the Christmas decor should come down, but we like to take it down right after Christmas day every year. Good thing that our Christmas decor doesn’t define when the holiday begins or ends. We try to celebrate Jesus everyday in our home no matter what decor is up. Today I wanted to start in our upstairs living room because it’s the room you walk into when you enter our front door. This room will also be changing really dramatically soon which is bittersweet so I wanted to share it first since this might be the last room tour that this room looks like this. This year for our winter decor I wanted to keep it really simple & natural using winter greens & other rustic elements.

My kind of winter neutral living room. What do you think? To winterize this space I added some cozy plaid pillows [here], & a cable knit pillow from Marshalls for cozy texture to the couch. For the centerpiece I used a round tray [found here] & filled it with garland from Michaels & some mercury glass candles from Marshalls for a simple coffee table centerpiece. The wintery clock corner? I know. That clock is awesome. I will actually be carrying it in my new store, The Found cottage [here] but for those of you who aren’t local to me here in Michigan to shop for one at my store, I did find a few clocks like the one I have like this one [here], & more listed below the post. I placed a window behind the clock & hung a rustic pinecone wreath on the window from HomeGoods, & placed a crock in front of the clock filled with more garland from Michaels & a few rustic spindles. The sign has a wreath from Homegoods on it & some garland from Michaels around the sign. On the card catalog I mixed some vintage pieces like the metal tub, chippy spindles, & the vintage ice skates with some wintery garland. For the entryway lockers I placed a hand painted piece from The orange pebble with a few old windows I had. I then put some garland in an olive bucket from Target [like this one here]  along with some pinecones I picked up at the craft store. You can see how we made our coffee table [here] & see a full review on our rugs [here].

So, there is our neutral rustic winter living room. What do you think? My advice for decorating for winter is to add cozy textures with blankets, pillows, rugs, & accessories. Add some winter outdoor elements like greenery & birch logs. & really just go for cozy and you can’t go wrong. I like to keep my winter decor simple, neutral, & cozy especially in the rooms we hang out in the most.
