Ok, this might be the most simple post I EVER do, but it has to be talked about because finding cute pumpkins these days can be hard & just plain expensive. Let’s say I want 48 white [or any solid color for that matter] pumpkins & I don’t want to buy each individual one at $5.99 & up? Well, hopefully my cheapness can save you some time & money too & I couldn’t keep this tip to myself. Last fall I shared my painted pumpkins [here], but here is just another way to get the perfect neutral pumpkins quick & cheaply. I also tried out a new paint that I thought I would hate & I actually loved. So there is that too. Anyways here is how I got my lovely DIY neutral pumpkins..


Cute huh? Well, they weren’t always my favorite. You know how I love my neutral decor & when I picked them up at Michaels they weren’t really my style…

I picked these pumpkins up at about 50% off so the price was great & I didn’t feel bad about painting them or taking the time to do a little DIY. I then headed to the paint aisle where I stumbled across the Krylon chalky spray paint. It sounded awful to me. I thought it would clog easy & turn out chunky on the pumpkins, but it was one of those things that I just had to try. I mean, I want to be the guinea pig for you guys to save your dollars or tell you about an amazing product.

I chose the color colonial ivory because it looked like a good neutral pumpkin color. I laid out my pumpkins on a piece of cardboard & after shaking the can for like 3 minutes, went to town on those orange pumpkins. I have to say, this spray paint worked like a dream. It took about two coats, but that could be because they little guys kept moving around on me. The finish does feel like chalk paint when you are done & I love the matte look of the paint on the pumpkins as well. All in all so far I love this spray paint & I also bought some gray for another project so we will see if that love stays. Updates to come. Here is how my neutral small pumpkins turned out with the spray chalk paint & I’m quite pleased with them..

These pumpkins can probably be found all over our house, but I do love them all gathered in this little basket that I found at Michaels a while back. You can find cheap pumpkins everywhere [dollar store, grocery stores, craft stores, ones you already have lying around…] that you can look at differently because no matter what they look like you can always spray paint them.
