Ok. So, I have to admit this is one of those projects that was on such a whim that I debated even blogging it. I wanted to make a quirky industrial style lamp for our booth & I happen to have an old beat up lamp laying around the house to play around with. I’ve been admiring simplistic metal frame lampshade lights lately as pendants & ceiling lights, so I thought why not try it on a lamp. Here is the DIY industrial lamp that I came up with & how I accomplished it…

Pretty cute huh? & Unique & probably not everyone’s cup of tea. But that’s the fun part right? Being different & creative & not being scared to try new things. I rescued this lamp as it was about to be thrown out & I think I did it some justice & gave it a whole new life now. Here is how the lamp was looking before I got my hands on it…

Nothing too special. It had a lot of damage & was by no means in great shape. I don’t even think the photo gives the amount of dirt on the lampshade any justice, but maybe that’s best for all of us. Anyways, I started by taking off the lamp shade & cleaning the base of the lamp. I painted the base of the lamp with wrought iron chalk paint by Maison Blanche to give it that matte black look. Painting the lamp took about two coats with letting it dry in between. I then started unraveling the weird plastic/clothe off of the lamp shade itself. It literally came undone in seconds. I really liked the look of the lamp shade with just it’s metal frame. It was industrial & super simple so I decided to keep it that way. I painted the finial [the funny little thing that holds the lamp shade on] with the black chalk paint as well as all the “lamp parts” towards the bulb to keep it cohesive. I used an edison bulb that I found at Home depot in the lamp to carry on with that antique vibe & even though you can’t see it well in the photos I think the bulb adds that perfect vintage touch when you see it in person & when the lamp is on at night as well. & this is what it came out looking like…

& That’s a wrap. I debated on whether or not to keep this fun lamp where it is, but I just couldn’t part with the lamp that was already there. I do love the pop of black though! I moved this lamp to my booth at Painted Farmgirl to brighten up my little booth. So if you ever want to see it in person you can stop in there & hey, maybe I’ll bump into you & we can chat!
