Once in a while I get a weird idea to do something & twenty minutes later the hubs and I are finishing the project up. Those DIY projects are always awesome when they work out like that. This project was born because of the fact that I had the materials laying around the house already & it kind of just came together. But I have always been fascinated by message boards & family command centers, but I have never made one before so this was a fun little project for me to try. Mind you I had all the items laying around the house, but you can easily find all these items to make your own.

Isn’t it pretty stinkin’ cute? Of course we had it hanging in our living room because I’m not sure if I’m going to be keeping this piece or if I will be selling it in my booth at this point so I just photographed it here so I could quick show you guys. Doesn’t look bad on the windows though huh? Here is a little quick rundown of how I made this magnetic message board…

I started with these pallet boards we had put together a while back that was just sitting in our basement. The pallet boards are attached together with two horizontal boards that the pallet wood is screwed into to secure it and keep it together.

I layed out everything out on the pallet wood like I wanted it. I bought the metal sheet from Home Depot & attached that to the pallet wood with a nail gun. I wanted a boarder so I laid out some scrap wood that I had as the boarder. & two hooks from Hobby Lobby completed the magnetic message center.

Using a triangle & a nail gun we attached the boarder around the metal sheet. Would you believe me if I told you all of this wood except for one little piece had to be trimmed? They were already all the perfect size. Like it was meant to be.

Lastly we attached the hooks to the boards. These hooks can be used to hang anything from bags, pencil holders, plants, coats, & anything to keep your house organized. I hung a mason jar from the hook to hold pens & pencils & worked out wonderful! I used some magnets that I found at Home Depot to attach some things to my magnet board. You could show off your kids art work, hang a calendar, keep your grocery lists, & even your weekly meal plan.

Seriously I had so much fun creating this little [big] command center. It’s fun to do something that I’m not used to doing & making something I normally wouldn’t make.
