Apparently the guy at Lowe’s told me that this time of year they sell more tomato cages than they do all summer because people are making tomato cage Christmas trees. Just a fun fact for you. I was one of those people. I have seen tomato cage Christmas trees around the web, but I didn’t see any that were “my style” you know that rustic cottage vibe? So I set out to make my own in my own style & I found out it was super easy. Of course my version of the tomato cage Christmas tree isn’t going to be for everyone, but by changing a few things around you can make them in your own style for your holiday decor!
It’s simple, It’s rustic, & it’s an adorable little Christmas tree! For now I have them sitting in our living room on either side of our card catalog console, but who knows they may find a new home very soon. They would be so pretty in any room & even on our porch lit up with Christmas lights.
Supply list: Tomato cages {found at hardware stores}, garland, string or floral wire.
I wanted to make the trees really simple looking & I wanted the cages exposed for more of a rustic look so I used an 11ft garland for the cages that I found at Michaels on sale. I started from the bottom & wrapped the garland around the cage as I went up & sectored with the floral wire. I also secured the top of the tomato cage with floral wire as well. After the garland was fully wrapped around I fluffed the garland and secured it in all of the places that it felt more loose.
You can thank Mr. LMB for these lovely cell phone photos of me working on my tomato cage trees.. we really have wild Sunday’s around here don’t we? But seriously I love these little christmas trees & I wish that I had made more! Think of all the possibilities with different garland, lights, bows, ornaments, you can completely make them your own. We all knew I was going to keep my simple & neutral.

Lovely! I always liked the idea of those but didn’t want the bright tinsel/glittery look. I’m definitely going to try it. I think it would be nice to spray paint the cages green or brown so they didn’t have such a harsh metal look and weave thin burlap ribbon throughout the greenery as well. So excited to get started!
