A few weeks ago I revealed our early fall dining room & a lot of you were asking about our “new” dining room table bench. Well, today’s the day I get to show you! I was asked to partner with Swiffer & Home Depot to create something for our home & right away I knew what I wanted to do! We had this old shutter just leaning on a wall in our dining room begging to become a bench. All it needed was a good cleaning & a little DIY love to make the perfect bench for our dining table.

Making this bench was super simple & every step was super easy. We got a really fun Swiffer box delivered to our front door & I was so excited to open it up and see what was inside. I mean, nothing makes me feel more like an adult than to be excited to clean our house. First we had to clean the shutter since it has been sitting in storage for so long. I used my handy swiffer duster to get in between all the gaps so it was ready for the painting step. 

Now that the shutter was all clean it was time for the DIY part of the project. To give the bench a lot of support we needed to basically make a bench & then put the shutter on top of the bench.

Next, place straight leg anchor plates at each corner and at the center of the bottom of the baseboard. Once installed, put in the legs and prep it for painting. A quick rub down of all surfaces right before paint is always a good idea – especially if any cuts were made; wood dust collects like sand after the beach.

After cleaning up the bench one more time & removing any debris we then painted the entire bench & even gave the shutter a light coat of the same color to have it blend in with the base.

Seriously this is one of my most favorite furniture DIY’s we have ever done. Just because it’s so unique & I love the look of it. Some questions people have asked include, does it hurt your bum? The answer is no, it’s new technology that shapes to your booty. No, but really, it doesn’t hurt at all it feels like you are sitting on a normal bench.  What do you think of our rustic shutter bench? Have any questions? & something else that’s pretty exciting, I got to surprise someone with a swiffer box at their door!
