As we are approaching summer I am becoming more and more obsessed with plants. I know, I am becoming the crazy plant lady. It happens. Ps. our fiddle fig is still alive! I should probably share a post on that & what has been working for us. Anyways, the hubs and I really wanted to try a stab at a small herb/vegetable garden in our house, & we aren’t sure how well it will do inside, but we wanted to try. If all fails, we can attempt one in our courtyard. While we were home last week in Michigan my wonderful grandpa gave us a couple of these amazing antique wash tubs. I actually carted one back to NC in our little Jetta.. Mr. LMB was thrilled. My first thought was to use it as a laundry basket by our laundry closet, but after putting it by the closet it was too big for the space so my next thought? Make a garden out of it!

I know you are all super intelligent so this is more of an idea than a tutorial because It’s a tub with a garden in it. Easy stuff. Oh, & you say you don’t have a vintage tub? No problem. You can purchase these lovely metal tubs brand new at a tractor supply store month many other stores like it. Or just scour your local thrift/antique stores & maybe you will stumble across an antique wash tub like this. For the garden, we simply lined the inside of the tub with a plastic drop cloth, poured our organic soil we found at Home depot & planted our lovely little plants {Jalepenos, Chocolate mint, Greek oregano, cilantro, & squash} By the way the chocolate mint smells amazing! & now you may be wondering about those lovely little plant markers…

I got the idea from this blog to make these lovely copper garden markers. I simply used copper group wire found at Home Depot, you can find it at any hardware store. I than spray painted magnet letters with copper spray paint {I used hammered texture, I would suggest just using regular}. After the spray paint was dry I hot glued the letters to the copper ground wire pieces I cut with pliers.

After the glue dries stick those babies in the dirt. These help a person like me who can’t tell one plant from another to tell if it’s a pepper or simply some oregano. Also let’s face it, it makes the whole garden cuter.

For now the little herb garden is sitting in our dining room. the wash tub is on wheels so I sometime scoot it around the house in front of windows for light. Seriously, who am I? I’m hoping the little herb garden lasts in the dining room, but if it doesn’t like I said before we will move it to a new location. The watering can under the wash tub garden is from Target & acts as a watering can & drainage catcher just in case. What do you think of our DIY wash tub Garden? Do you have a garden like this?
