The kitchen is the heart of the home. You hear that often, but our kitchen really is the heart of our home, and that means it needs all the organization it can get. You want it to be functional yet pretty. I created a DIY mason jar kitchen organizer to add beauty and function to our kitchen, & the best part was it was so easy to make & super affordable! 

Making the DIY kitchen organizer:

The Frame

I chose to go with straight crosscuts instead of a 45-degree angle cut to frame the boarder. I simply cut the two long side the same length and the top and bottom cross boards the same. I attached them with wood glue and gold right angle brackets, after the glue settled we stained the wood.
The Picture and backing

We ordered a printed cotton napkin from H&M. Put in place of the frame, and used a cardboard cutout for the backing. We placed the cloth in place on the cardboard and stapled the cardboard to the backside of the frame.

The Planters Box

We measured out the total width of the frame. Cut the front and bottom board to the same width of the frame. Cut the sides to size of the front and bottom board. Attached with screws and wood glue, and let set. We added self-tapping hooks to the bottom of the box to hang towels & other kitchen items on as well.

The Stripes.

Top thin line: I measured how far down from the top I wanted the line to be, and used 3M ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape for Multi-Surface with Advanced Edge-Lock™ Paint Line Protector 2093EL to, create the crisp line. I repeated this step for the bottom. The line thickness is 1/8-inch. Made two marks on each side and laid the bottom of the stripe the ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape as well. Paint!  Once completely dried, remove the tape and you should have two symmetrical lines. For the thick centerline, I measured a 1/8-inch gap from the bottom of the top stripe and from the top of the bottom stripe. Marked it off with ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape for Delicate Surfaces with Advanced Edge-Lock™ Paint Line Protector 2080EL, and painted again. Once dry, I removed the tape and you get the finished product. We added a little bit of distressing to give it a little more rustic look.

This DIY mason jar organizer could be used in any room of the home, but I think in the kitchen with a few mason jars succulent planters, kitchen utensils & hooks for towels & other kitchen items this organizer is the perfect piece in the kitchen!
