Okay, as we are closing in on the last few weeks before Christmas, I am still in the festive mood and decorating accordingly. I love the little extra flare that Christmas brings everyones home. I did a look in One of the most coziest places in everyones home, the master bedroom, a few weeks ago [HERE], but I wanted to do a second look in this space to give another spin on Christmas decor. Since it is the backend of the Christmas decor season, I wanted to design this Cozy Bedroom Reading Corner, and have it easily ready to be converted from a Christmas look to a Winter look once Christmas passes. 

A quick fact, I loooove winter decor and feel like its quickly overlooked, when I think it is one of the more important times to keep your home styled a cozy. I feel after Christmas people pull out all the whimsical and cozy elements that is found in Christmas decor, and leave their homes somewhat bare and prep for Spring… I could go on, but think about how much time that I spent indoors (at least in the midwest) and on days that daylight goes by in a blink of an eye. A cozy home for you and your family could completely change how you live the next few months until the warmer spring greets us all.

Okay enough soap boxing Liz, get to the space. So for this space, I decorated our bedroom faux fireplace mantel with seasonal greens, two cozy slip covered sofas, an ottoman, and a Christmas felt garland.

Seasonal Greens

The more bold element in the design is the garland that stretches across the top of the faux fireplace mantel. The season greens consist of a few different garlands. I used a real garland I picked up from a local flower shop. It is a cedar garland that original was 20ft long, but I cut it down to fit and slightly extend over the fireplace mantel.

With the real cedar garland as a base, I wove in sections of a real fresh mixed eucalyptus garland I got from Arhaus. This gives garland some added dimension and texture, as well as create a significant amount of volume that carries a majority of weight in the vignette.

While we quickly go right to Christmas when we think what season we are in, but its really the winter season. When Christmas passes, this garland will still fit within our seasonal look and anchor this design.

And a big tip is to mix these garlands with some faux greens too. Mixing faux stems and garlands in with reals ones is a great way to add volume and customize the garlands to you and your space needs.

Cozy Seating

Something that I strive to do in most of my designed spaces is to ensure I have cozy seating where it fits. Depending on size and space, bedrooms may or may not allow for larger wingbacks like these, but I encourage a little bench or single smaller chair to be worked into bedroom spaces. These spaces are already trying their hardest at being the coziest space in your home, add the extra bit with a chair to kick back and read book or scroll on your phone. Sometimes bedrooms are your only spaces to get time to yourself and the thought of sitting in bed may not be as ideal, especially during the time of year when nap time could be all day.

Christmas Garland

This super cute FALALALALA Christmas garland I got from SugarBoo, already neutral, strung across the edges of the mantel help transition the eyes down. I didn’t add anything to this garland because, it does help bring the eye down, it isn’t necessary. I chalk this up to the extra little flare that Christmas brings to a space. After Christmas I will pull this out of the look and everything else can remain for the rest of the winter design.

Faux Fireplace

We built this Faux Fireplace last year, you can find the DIY here. Our room is oddly shaped due to some remodeling that was done from previous owners. I think this a great area to address how to create some design structure in spaces that you feel need some defining. Long walls or oblonge rooms sometimes become hard to style and design. What I call, design structure, are more permanent items or large scale items like cabinets, dressers, and even a faux fireplace, that creates a transition in a room, or sections a room to act as a well or anchor. We have those spaces else were here in the farmhouse. But a way to cozy up a space is to add some larger more permanent elements that we are all very capable of doing. This Faux Fireplace anchored this space on this wall, something that was challenging to design before, and now welcomes us to relax in a cozy seat and turn off our brains.
