Sometimes when we’re scrolling through all of the posts on social media, we feel like our décor isn’t good enough or our home isn’t beautiful enough. Especially during the holidays, when you’re looking at beautiful Christmas décor. If you’ve felt these feelings, you’re not alone but I want you to try something. Instead of feeling like you need more, choose to embrace the holiday season with contentment for the season.
My job is to bring daily inspiration to you, but I truly hope that you don’t feel like you need to change your décor as much as I do or buy all new things each season. Sometimes the best items are collected and classic. With contentment in mind, I wanted to bring you a super affordable way to decorate and finish off every single vignette in your home. It’s not groundbreaking, but it is beautiful!
Ribbon! Yup, good old classic gift wrap ribbon. Decorating with ribbon for the holiday season! I have a serious obsession with collecting ribbon when I visit different shops. Something about the patterns, textures, and colors of the gift wrap ribbon inspire me. I collect little spools of ribbon throughout the year and one of my favorite (and most affordable) ways to decorate is using ribbon in different ways from hanging wreaths, draping on windows and mirrors, laying on dressers and in centerpieces, and more. The options are endless!
In the sunroom, I used this amazing ribbon I found at Target. I found myself needing something to finish off my little vignettes and I really didn’t feel like buying anything more for my Christmas décor, so I took out my ribbon and incorporated it into the space.
On the mirror, I draped it over the sides and secured it with putty. On the tables, I left some on the spools and pulled it out a little bit to drape over the centerpiece. Another fun and affordable ribbon project is creating tree garland. And as it’s intended, using ribbon on gifts under the tree is the perfect finishing touch if you like to wrap your gifts early, so that they are part of your décor. Innovative? Maybe not. But it is a smart way to finish up your holiday décor and add some cozy interesting texture. I gathered some fun ribbon options below. You can click on the images to shop them. Some people have a knack for decorating and some people need others for inspiration. I noticed that there was a comment about consumption on your blog recently and I was thinking about it when I clicked on your post today. You provide a service to many and everyone who is here chooses to come and look. I think I am creative, yet I enjoy seeing ideas from other people. What bothers me is that some people feel that an honest comment is a threat or rude. Perhaps, sometimes, that is the case. However, there have been times where I have wanted to express an honest opinion and feared that my intentions would be misconstrued. I believe today’s post captures the longing some readers might feel about simple ideas with a large impact. I noticed the pom-poms and since I have joined the pom-pom mania, I ticked that off as an idea I can use in my own home. I might wish that I could purchase some of the lovely items you have on display, but I can’t. But…I can get ideas and figure out the cheapest way to recreate your look as my own. I hope that my thoughts are recognized as merely curiosity and not judgemental.
As an aside, I venture that you don’t have cats since my crew would LOVE to see ribbons hanging. Should I share the story of how Steve once ate a shoelace?

Liz doesn’t comment much on the blog, but I would love to hear how Steve ate a shoelace! I once had a cat that ate all the tape in a cassette tape! Who knew it would be an attraction! When we found her with some tape sticking out of her mouth we pulled on it and all the tape came out looking like a lanyard!

Hi Liz, I switch my Christmas decor up every year, but always stay with a green, white and black stripe or silver color palette. I think it’s fresh and with a few really Christmas-y things exchanged for a few neutral items, most of it can stay through February. I truly admire your space with the white yarn garlands, greenery, natural woods, collected ribbons and your lovely table vignette, The books wrapped with ribbon, white stoneware with candles and the black and white painted ceramic ornaments are simply, “ahhh”.
