Ok.. cozy and Halloween.. They don’t usually go hand in hand I have to admit. But guess what? I’ve NEVER tackled halloween decor & this year I decided to go for it… & so here I am decorating for halloween the Liz Marie way… Cozy. Cozy halloween am I right? Cassandra drove all the way from California to Michigan to be a part of our Mercantile Market this past Labor Day & I was SO HONORED. I’m obsessed with her work & I knew I wanted a few pieces from her & two of them are here styled on my halloween mantel. This Halloween book page sign of hers clearly inspired the look & that moon face sign was the perfect touch to make it a complete halloween night look. The candles? They are from another friends line, Susie from Shop from Susie. That garland is from our shop & so was that antique window that I layered with the signs.
Mantel decorating is fun for me in all seasons. It comes down to layering, balance, & scale.. in this case:
- Layering- An odd number of signs layered was the backdrop to a cozy mantel. All the signs were different one with glass and wood texture, one with an image on it, & the last one with words on it. They all worked well together because they didn’t compete with each other, but all complimented each other instead.
- Balance- One side of the mantel has the tall signs to the edge, & on the other side of the mantel I included some tall candlesticks to balance it all out.
- Scale- A bunch of small items on a mantel can look cluttered. For this look I used a lot of elements so to make it not look cluttered I used various sizes and some with a very large scale to help everything flow well together.

This is one of the best decor for Halloween I have ever seen. It takes it to a night time place of magic and cozy. While we are tucked in our beds the night on October 31 is alive with wonders.
Love your mantel. I’ve always decorated for Halloween even before we had a child. . After that, it was strictly all the wonderful oranges of pumpkins and witches that kids love. When he was done with Halloween, I continued to decorate with some of the pieces he loved but added in some fall. Now I am planning to give him some of the Halloween décor for his two little ones, ages 2 1/2 and 10 mos. More enjoyment for every one.

I don’t decorate anymore, my grandchildren have outgrown Halloween and we have no children in my neighborhood. I love yours they are perfect and so cute, that moon and sign are wonderful.
