This place looks so beautiful and relaxing, we may have to add it to our list of places we want to visit.

  3. Liz Galvan says:

You absolutely should. You could spend a beautiful week in Northern Michigan during mid fall and fall in love. Thank you for stopping by the blog today!

  4. Liz Galvan says:

Thank you so much. Have you ever been to the island?

  5. susie says:

Enjoyed all your pictures. I think it would be fun to see the island in every season. Well…maybe not winter. LOL Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  6. Lynsey says:

That sounds lovely. I will tell my husband to add it to the list;)

Another option to get to the Island is to take a a commuter flight from the small airport out of St. Ignace. Operated by Great Lakes Air it costs about twice as much as taking a ferry, but if you are staying on the back side of the Island near the M.I. Airport (at Inn at Stonecliff, a condo, or private home) it gets you much closer to your destination. Considering the additional expense of a taxi ride from the ferry docks, it’s actually a good deal. Plus, you get a to enjoy a beautiful bird’s eye view of the Straits and the Island.

We just spent our 43rd anniversary on the island mid-May, first timers and we loved it, great weather, stayed at the Inn at Stonecliffe, rented bikes only one day so we could bike the 8.3 mile loop, views and weather were spectacular, we walked the 2 miles everyday back and forth to town, drove from CT, hope we get back sometime ♥️

Lovely post! We’re planning our second fall trip to the Island in late September. It’s such a special place and is rapidly becoming one of the easier MI tourist destinations for GF dining (Traverse City is also awesome in this regard). Every time I’ve eaten at the Yankee Rebel Tavern in recent years, the servers have been very knowledgeable about the menu items and celiac-safe dishes. I’ve also had great and safe meals at Seabiscuit Cafe and the Gate House. Even my favorite watering hole, the Pink Pony, now has GF options on the menu.

Thank you so much for this post! Based on your earlier recommendations we made reservations for our family at The Mackinac House for early October. This will be the first trip to Mackinac for our 5 and 7 year old daughters and the first time I have have been there since I was a young girl. It’s great to know where to eat, what to do, and what ferry to take. Crossing our fingers for good weather and beautiful trees in October!

We love going to Mackinac Island for a week minimum. It’s so relaxing! We walk, bike and enjoy the slowed down pace. Our favorite place to stay is The Inn at Stonecliffe – away from the downtown noise and beautiful views of the bridge. It’s very peaceful!

Thanks for sharing the dets Liz! I am googling how far of a drive it is from NY now! This reminds me of Natucket off of Cape Cod, which we love!

  13. Jamie says:

If you have motion or sea sickness avoid the Starline Hydro-Jet Ferry it’s a rough ride but faster than the regular ferry.

  14. Laura says:

I took notes! Heading there Aug 25 to 27 for our 40th anniversary. Thanks for the tips.

This will be my first trip to the Island. What is the name of the Inn in your blog with all the pictures shown , and the staircase?
I love history and old homes, is it available for rent or just a tourist attraction? Thank You, I love your web site.
