Lately we have a lot on our plate. From starting to prep for The Found Cottage Mercantile Market in Holland, to regular projects around the house, and of course the Prince of the Farm, Mr. Copeland Beau. So our DIY’s haven’t been as often as we’d like… But every now and then we can sneak one in and it is so refreshing. Trust us, there are a LOT more DIY’s coming to the blog soon…

This past weekend Jose and I were out picking and came across a rustic trough that we both stopped and stared at for a good five minutes… We didn’t buy the trough but were inspired to build one to be used on our dining room table. When it comes to a simple DIY, this one is at the top of the list. It was so quick & easy & makes for a great easy centerpiece…

With two 2 x 8 x 4′, we cut a 32.5 degree angle on one long edge of the board. This is were the boards are going to meet together to form the center of the trough.

Next, using the same 32.5 degree, cute a “V” into a 2 x 8 x 8″ board. This will be the holder and foot for the trough. Repeat this step to create the second foot.

Take a 2 x 8 x 10″ and hold it up to the open side of the trough and stencil out the the outer edges. Cut and attach to the trough to close each side

Lastly, cover the center seam with a 1 1/2 strip of 1/4 inch plywood and your done. Its ready for light sanding and paint!

I have always been a lover of long troughs and dough bowls. They are so versatile when it comes to decor and styling… you can take it from practical holder of plates and plastic ware, or seasonal splash of design like fresh cut steams of greens or flowers. I cut these branches from the farm today & have been loving the farm fresh simplicity of them.
