I think it is just that time of year. Late February in Michigan, means we are more than ready for this snow to go away, gray skies to clear, and the heavy coats to retire for the season. I think indirectly my unanswered wishes of warmer weather negatively impact my home. I have this gray cloud inside my home too, where I feel like all the spaces are undone or need some fresh life. We recently started working our way upstairs redoing those spaces. We don’t have a solid plan as of yet, but the upstairs hallway is equipped with some rustic looking shiplap and fresh new windows. So it was only fitting to show off the hallway both day and night, and in order to do so we needed to update the lighting.

Before the face-lift there was wall sconces between each of the windows and I looked forward to updating those to help define and light the space. When the time came to it, I found some great options but my goodness where they up there in price. I don’t mind splurging on wall sconces, but when I needed 5 or 6 of them this wasn’t the time to splurge.

With 5 lights needing to be purchased and installed, I couldn’t commit to a high price light at this time, knowing we were uncertain on the layout of the bedrooms and everything upstairs. We are still in the thought process, especially after we have a little one running the roost. So we set out to find cheap alternatives to hold us over or even be a permanent fixture for the hallway.

I recently bought this beehive lamp from Anthropologie, and absolutely loved the silhouette and the idea of the lamp given we are a novice bee farm too. The lamp was bought on one of their big sales, but was still a splurge. On our last trip through Home Depot, we took a stroll through their lighting section to see what option they had. We came across some options, but to my surprise I spotted a light that looked like my Anthropologie lamp.

They are outdoor LED lights, but the look of them fit perfectly with my Beehive lamp inspiration. The install was the same as an interior light, but these were equipped with pre-installed LED’s. That comes with both a pro and a con. You don’t have a choice of light warmth or coolness, but also you don’t have to worry about replacing lights. When the light are off, I like the fact that you can’t see an unlit bulb and truly appreciate the look of the light itself without any distractions like a big bulb.

On top of the LED, the price was fantastic in comparison. Out the door these were just under 40 dollars, much better than the compared 250 dollars for one light. I too think this is a great example of not making to quick of decisions just to finish up a space without all the plans finalized. We figured if and when time comes to replace these for the more expensive purposeful light, we can transfer these to the greenhouses on the property… CUTE right!

Given this inspiration I wanted to put together a list of possible affordable lighting options for your space to either hold your design over until you want to make a larger decision, or if you’d rather apply your budget on something else…
