It’s a weird time in decor my friends. It’s still winter, but we all see the light at the end of the tunnel where spring decor is. In our home I’m over the pine and the winter decor so I’ve been transitioning into spring decor slowly but surely & I wanted to share a little piece of our house that carries the hope of spring on it & has kept my spirits up this past week during that huge snow storm….

This space is in our front living room between two of our front French doors behind the sofa. The main piece is this lovely original painting by my friend Holli of Hollihocks. So many of you know her & that makes my heart so happy. She sells her art at our shop, The Found Cottage, & she truly is the best. I hung that above this scalloped edge table that I’ve been using as my plant table. On the table I placed some of our houseplants that have been trying to survive this long winter. It helps me to remember to water them when they are all clustered together like this. The table is messy but pretty at the same time… kind of like this time of year in Michigan when the snow is melting & everything is a little messy, but still filled with beauty. I love the undone feel of it all & how it adds to the coziness of the room.

My take on this transitional period in our home is to slowly highlight those house plants and start cleansing our home of all the winter decor and purging the house in general. Room by room we purge and we clean for the new year and before we bring spring in to each of the rooms. After all the purging and the cleaning the house just feels more clean and fresh & then I like to highlight our greenery and our house plants in each of the rooms. My favorite “winter to spring” decor is house plants. From Pathos to topiaries to angel vine to cypress trees… I love them all! These plants here are a mix of ones I found at our local nursery & from our shop, The Found Cottage. I suggest checking your local boutiques, local nurseries, and even stores like Home Depot & Lowes. I’ll do a post soon on my favorite house plants & ones that I recommend from my experience. I hope that this post shows you a little glimpse into how we decorate in this transitional time & inspires you in this spring to winter time that we are in.
