You guys! I don’t know if its just me, but I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited for Spring than this year. We had glimmers of sunlight throughout winter, but when we see sun in March here on the farm, we are filled with so many good feels, and we cannot contain it. Being our second full spring here on the farm, we have so many fun and exciting plans, we really have to ground ourselves because we are still a few weeks away; and as much as I dislike losing sleep, the “spring forward” daylight savings time change means we are just that much closer, and we get that much more daylight before its time to hang it up for the day. I was so excited that Joss & Main asked us to give our dining room a spring refresh this week because I AM SO READY to welcome spring & a dining room refresh has really put me in the mood…

I have to say… we are obsessed with our dining room now that we have done this little refresh & just some quick little changes has really made this space feel more like “us”.We feel like we really captured the perfect mixture of spring’s feeling of fresh and new, and our cottage style of eclectic old vintage. I don’t know if its that of vitamin D, but this space makes me so happy to look out on from the kitchen…

If you look at this space you’ll see what spring is to me, bouts of green and birds, lots and lots of birds. When all the life fly’s south at the end of fall, we look forward to the return the chirping and singing, and what better way great them back than having them scattered around our dinning room? The vintage styled round frames hung vertically on the side of the corner cabinet is definatlely one of our favorite little corners of this space, adding a layer of depth in an area typically loss due to its transition out of the room. This gives you both the hello and goodbye when coming into the dinning room from upstairs or our front living room.

& more birds? Yes! I loved [This collection] of vintage style bird prints in white distressed frames. My original idea with this fresh art was to hang them in a gallery wall in the space, but decided to layer them on top of our large cabinet & also hang them on either side under our new wall sconces…

I wanted to hang a wreath on one of our cabinets in this room, but couldn’t seem to find the perfect one. you saw last week, I hung a watering can as a wreath in the center of our mantel display in our front living room (Link), and why stop there? I tried a bayleaf “regular” wreath, and it just wasn’t closing out the space. So I put this Gardener Basket (Link) up, and its had the perfect weight to capture your eye, provide the perfect amount of balance that closes out that corner in the space. This cabinet is cute on it’s own, but I think with a market bag wreath, it’s even cuter.

We have changed over the space to the left and right of our large cabinet in the dinning room. And we came to realize that its just not emphasized enough, its lost due to the overwhelming size of the buffet in middle, so we wanted to try to counter that with adding some wall sconces to really showcase that area. Since there wasn’t electrical in that area, we came up with a very quick and easy DIY to get that look and functioning light you can put anywhere, like that of these Camilla Wall sconces  from Joss and Main (Link).

We didn’t want to remove all of the the pre-installed electrical stuff within the light, in the event we wanted to actually hardwire them in somewhere later on, you know how are always changing over here. So in order to preserve the lights, we went with these puck lights [link]. These puck lights have the batters right inside the puck light itself, and it does not have a long wires and a battery compartment that would require stringing it through to the base of the light.

How to install the wall sconces without any wiring: 

To install, put a fresh set of batteries in the puck light, turn the shade up so it is facing the ceiling, and set the lights in place.

*Set the lights somewhere, where they can rest with the shades pointing up, away from anything that would tip it over.

Once you have it fairly level inside the shade of the light, apply a consistent and generous layer of silicone adhesive around the perimeter of the light and follow the cursing instructions.

Once the silicone is cured, it’ll have a similar constancy to caulk, and if you apply a consistent and generous layer, it usually will come off in one piece, when you need to remove the puck light.

 

The crown jewel of the entire space? The new dining room chairs [HERE]!! I have had my eyes on these for months & finally knew they had to be a part of our dining room. They make all of my cottage greenhouse dreams come true. I love the high back on them & the drama & texture they add to the space. I was a little worried at how the distressing would be on the chairs, but when I got them I was so surprised at how natural the distressing was & how they looked like a true antique find. These chairs add so much to this space & I’m so thankful that I found them! Oh, & yes, they are as comfortable as they look to sit it.

We made a few other changes like adding some hooks for towels & aprons on either side of the large cabinet, some lovely greenery around the room, added a new rug, & cleaned up some of the old tired decor. All of these little & big things added up to the perfect spring dining room refresh here at White Cottage Farm & I couldn’t be happier.
