This  is one of those projects where it’s not quite done, but I’m excited to share so I couldn’t wait until it was all finished. So I guess today I’m just sharing the concept with you. I’m hoping this concept works out because it’s something that I’ve been wanting to do for a while. It may seem basic, but it changes this room drastically if I do say so myself…

It’s our dining room! & we hung some curtains… ok, before you are like what the heck Liz… it’s just curtains. Hear me out! This room is a pretty large room & you all know my style is to make every space in our home cozy. Very cozy. Well, when you have a large room who’s main purpose is to dine in & it has all white walls & painted floors.. you can lose the cozy factor quite quickly. We don’t want that! So one of my solutions to cozy up this dining room now that we are putting it back together from ripping it apart to paint the floors… add some curtains. The curtains will add a ton of texture to the space. An interesting element that is more decorative than functional because we will most likely have them open more than closed. Sounds simple, but it’s been a process let me tell you…

First of all I found a really long architectural piece a while back that I knew would be cool for this project. The idea was to put a curtain rod on the architectural piece that spans the whole width of the two windows & the doors in the dining room. The architectural piece was a find from an antique store & the curtain rod is a target find [HERE]. Now on to the issues & what our objective is…

So first of all I wanted curtains that were light & airy… so I thought. So I picked up the flax linen curtains [HERE] at Pottery Barn in white. I got them hung up & NO SIR! They were too gauzy looking and made the room look like something it wasn’t. They didn’t anchor the room enough & I just wasn’t in love. So I brought my happy butt back to Pottery Barn & picked up the Emery curtains [HERE] in white which are kind of like the flax linen ones, but they are lined & more structured. You can see the difference here…

Ok, the next dilemma? I love the pooling of the flax linen, but the emery curtains. Not so much. My Pottery Barn only had the 108” panels & I’m thinking I need to exchanged for the 96” in panels, BUT I’m still glad that I can see that I like these panels & exchanging for a different size isn’t too hard. The other thing I need to change? The flax linen curtains didn’t cover the side windows that much & that was wonderful, but the Emery Curtains don’t gather as much so more of the windows are covered & I don’t want that. The plan? One of two things.. Either I’m going to make or buy some awesome curtain tie backs that make a statement so that the curtains can be pulled back OR I’m going to extend the architectural piece up top [YES I HAD TO CUT IT TO MAKE IT THIS SIZE] & then I will extend the curtain rod so that the curtains hang more to the side. So, as you see this project isn’t done… but it’s in the works & I think it’s going to be amazing. So to be clear: We will not be covering up those lovely lead glass windows on the side of the doors… I think they are pretty & love the light, just adding texture & coziness.
