Ahhh I’m so excited to type that title! Yes, we are getting an office here at White Cottage Farm. Ok, so it might not seem like that big of a deal, but let’s back up a second. You guys have seen here on the blog that we have been redoing our back guest bedroom that sits off the back living room for some time now. We have slowly but surely taken out the flooring, working on wall treatments, installing new floors, and so on. Well, the whole time we have been intending on this room being a guest bedroom, but one day Jose came to me and sat me down with a GENIUS plan & I thought I loved him before… but I fell in love all over again. Ok, it wasn’t that dramatic, but I kissed him hard & then we got to brainstorming for our new office…

EEEEEK! I’m already using this space even though it’s far from finished. But we got a good start on it!! So Jose’s idea to have an office at the house was just genius. You see our house is completely torn up from top to bottom in most rooms. I mean, we don’t even have a kitchen. I work a lot from home so that means I’m sitting on the couch on my computer with papers everywhere & just super disorganized which leads to frustration and it’s not pretty. I never thought to fix this problem, but Jose is a problem solver so an office was the solution & it’s already working so well for us. After brainstorming I really wanted our office to be a community space. I wanted friends, employees, business partners, groups, clients, & of course Jose and I, to be able to work in this space comfortably together. It’s not a massive room by any means. I believe it’s something like 13×13 maybe? But it has a lot of potential to become exactly what we need it to be.

Our walls will be shiplap 3/4 of the way up with big bulky “shelf trim” to cap it off. We did this because of the walls angle on one side of the room & I’m really liking the character it has added to the space. Once all the shiplap is up we can start painting the walls. The floor is already painted Farrow & Ball Lyme White & we will be adding a massive rug in the space as well to make it more cozy [this rug in the photos is only here for placement]. The table we used was my favorite antique pine table that was on our porch & I ordered these office chairs from World Market [HERE] & I’m obsessed with them. They are so comfortable & they fit perfectly around this table of ours. There is also two other work stations, one in the corner of the room & one in the closet. We are making the closet into a computer desk area that will hold our desktop computer and also the closet will be holding tools, supplies, & a lot more. Jose is working on the closet to maximize the space & so far it’s amazing, can’t wait to show you what it looks like when it’s done!

The room will also have a mini fridge because we are ridiculous [actually that was Jose’s idea, but I think he has just always fantasized about having a mini fridge in a room lol] and as a bonus this room also has an on suite bathroom which is fabulous because when I “go to work” I don’t have to leave or get distracted in anyway. I mean, besides Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest... you get the point. I am so excited to share this office makeover process with you guys & the plans we have for it… I’m actually on my computer in here right now typing this out and already feel so fancy.. an office? me? Who am I? This is the good life. Stay tuned for more office progress coming very soon! Thanks guys for stopping by the blog today & as always for sharing my blog with your friends and family… I can’t thank you enough! xx

I know you’re super busy, but could you do a floor plan of your house? I’d love to get an idea of how the whole thing flows together and what’s original vs added later. Thanks so much!! Love all the changes you are making.
You picked the exact chair I loved! They look fabulous in the office. You will love the space!
You are the sweetest!! I love how you type your blogs exactly like you talk. After watching so many of your stories, I can literally hear you talking as I read your blog. 🙂 You are a gifted storyteller, my friend!! The way you share and draw us in makes it truly seem like we are friends! Love this Instagram community and chance to connect with you! The office is already gorgeous!! Hugs!!
I would love to do that sometime! Great suggestion!!!
I am OBSESSED with them!!! They are wonderful and so cozy. Highly recommend. Thank you so so much! xx
OH MY that is the best compliment ever!!! I truly feel like people probably hate me talking in the stories, but your kind words encourage me to share more. Thank you for taking the time to leave such a sweet comment and for brightening my day. xx
We made an office for my husband in our new townhome. It was intended as the master bedroom with master bath. And we also put in a mini fridge in his office. He loves it. Works perfectly for us.
I am in love with your office space! It is coming alone beautifully! I just saw your story on IG about what color to paint above the shiplap in the office. I think a navy blue ( a darker blue) would look amazing with the white walls and the furnature you have in there currently!
Also a quick question…. do you chat on the Instagram pm chat or do you most chat thru your blog/comments on blog?
So when I first read the part that shows up in the initial email, I nearly jumped out of my seat because I read “We are getting an office here at White Cottage Farm OK. I immediately wondered where that was because Oh My Golly, I wanted you and a store near me down here in TX (I”d even take Oklahoma). So obviously, I was disappointed to read again what it actually said. Not that I’m not super excited for you and what sounds like and looks like a fabulous new office… it’s just not a “chain” store that will be moving closer to us here in the south – LOL. Love you, love everything you do. Big hugs
You will indeed love this space being your office! I love it: the slanted roof and painted surfaces look great- at first it was like looking at photos of my office space we created in our beach house! It was a sudden idea that came to me and our contractor helped as we drew it out and measured part of our long walk-in closet we were already working on with new areas for our clothes. It has white beadboard ceiling, 2 little windows that cranked out toward the sea, w/ an old elm desk and my tons of books and working files of workshop notebooks I wanted to fit into the baskets I loved, that would fit into planned measured out built in book case along one wall, from my yoga school work. Now at our farm house, missing it so, as the beach house is on the market, I see the potential for replicating it upstairs again beneath the low angled roof above, but SO much renovation work to do before I could see that! Enjoy!
I agree!!! And your voice is so pretty, Liz!!
Such a great idea! In fact, I just turned our guest bedroom (that was my junk room ?) into a sweet little office to start working on my new blog!! You and I are alike in that we both have such kind husbands always willing to help with our ideas and pitching in their own great ideas from time to time. So happy for you!! Even through the struggles, we are so blessed by them!
