Hi guys! Today I thought we might be posting about our painted dining room today, but that darn shiplap in the dining room proved us wrong! It was actually harder than we thought. Let’s get something clear… Mr. LMB did most of the work & I just helped.. you know by standing on stools and putting the pieces together once the work of cutting & routing was done by the wood working pro. You know I could do it, but would it be as good as him? Nope. So, anyways. We used an actual shiplap product instead of our DIY plywood shiplap method [here] that we used in our last house. I will be doing a full review of it once we get the room painted, but so far I can say that maybe it’s this room we are working in or maybe it’s the product, but it for sure took a lot longer than we had planned. But here it is, complete & messy & beautiful…

& now after priming & putting the shiplap up…

That arch is really what sucked a lot of our time up. Jose had to individually route each piece to fit it to the existing trim on the arch all while making them curved to fit the arch. He will be blogging that whole process soon because Lord have mercy it went right over my head. How did he get the gift of being creative, handsome, & smart? Lucky man. Or lucky me? I’ll take it! Next week this room will be getting painted, but we are about to take a break from house projects & I think that’s key to a house renovation. Take a break, walk away, & then come back ready to work. This room is going to look so good when it’s all the same color & fresh looking! It’s already lighter & brighter!

I’m not sure if I said it before, but it was a deliberate choice to keep the chair rail & beadboard at the bottom of the wall. I’ve never seen shiplap layered on beadboard like this, but I think it will add a lot of interest & texture to the room once it’s all painted. That’s my plan at least. I haven’t seen it done before, but that’s the beauty of our farmhouse, we want it to be classic, but with our own twist on everything. Anyways, there is the update. Our dining room walls are all planked out & ready for paint. I hope by me showing you the progress of this room it helps you see that everything isn’t done over night. It takes time, life gets in the way, & that’s ok. Also, still don’t have a solid plan for the flooring, but I have a feeling we are leaning towards painting them.
