I figured it out today. I figured out why my decor this winter is so simple & why it’s so pleasing to me. This is going to get deep, but these are my thoughts I had today as I snapped a few photos of our simple winter kitchen. Many of you know that I am opening up a store with two other lovely ladies. It’s been such a blessing & so amazing, but with that it has been a lot of work. The list never ends & we open in a week. With that, my other parts of my life don’t slow down so this is just piled on top of all of that. I’m trying to keep my head above water, but I find myself at the end of the day filled with anxiety & my brain won’t stop going. I know in my heart that once the doors open half of all of this will go away. There is always stress before you start something big, you want it to be absolutely perfect, & you are so hard on yourself. I sat down today & told myself that it doesn’t have to be “perfect” by opening day. It’s opening day. Day one. There will be a million days after day one to improve & perfect. I need to repeat this in my head everyday about everything in my life. We can improve on everything daily, it doesn’t have to be perfect. With opening a business there are tons of stressors from every angle, but I know it will all be worth it. I want to make waves. I want to support makers, I want to use the store to spread light in our area, I want everyone to walk in the doors & leave happier, I want to meet people who love what I love, I want to support other creative stores, I want the store to be a gathering of makers, pickers, & people who enjoy all those things. & with that, I have to remember what is at the core of why we are opening this store & that all the little things do not matter. And with all of these thoughts in my head, the store, our busy life, & other things going on I find myself gravitating towards simple decor this winter that doesn’t add more clutter to my life. This week so far I have blogged our winter living room [here], our winter dining room [here], & now today it’s all about our winter kitchen…

The kitchen is super simple & filled with rustic elements & winter greens. In the corner I used an olive bucket from Target filled with garland from Michaels. The lamp & sign are from World Market & the mugs are from West Elm. By the sink I used a metal container & soaps from World Market along with the same olive bucket situation as in the corner. Above the stove is a wreath from HomeGoods [some people freaked out about a wreath over a stove. Do not worry I use that stove daily & no fire hazards were ever spotted.] On our giant antique scale I have some candlesticks from Michaels along with some winter greens from the Target dollar spot. The light fixtures are from Home Depot & that kitchen sign was a DIY you can find [here].

So there is our simple winter kitchen. I’m kind of in love & like I said in yesterday’s post, our simple winter decor is refreshing & it’s not adding any clutter in this already cluttered mind of mine. I want to say a HUGE thank you to you guys from the bottom of my heart for supporting me on opening  up a store here in Michigan. I promise the dust will settle soon & I won’t be talking about how cluttered my brain is & we can get back to calmer Liz, or will we? haha Maybe this is my new reality and I will adapt to it quickly. Every season of life has it’s trials & triumphs. I hope after the trial of getting the store ready to open that there will be one big triumph.
