IT SNOWED HERE IN MICHIGAN THIS WEEKEND! Ok, sorry about the all caps, but that was a mixture of excitement & absolute fear haha. It’s our first fall into winter season in Michigan since we were both teenagers so it just felt like the snow came very quickly. I’m sure this is normal, but it’s all happening so fast to me. I love the snow, I love the feeling of comfort & “home” it gives, I love how magical it feels, I love the way it looks, & I don’t mind the cold because if you know me at all you know I HATE being hot, but I’m just scared to drive in it. I wish I still had my North Carolina license plate so that people were more understanding about how slow I drive in it, but alas I’m just a concerned with safety of me and others & they can’t be mad about that can they? Just as the snow started falling this weekend I was styling our dining room for the winter wonderland we were in. Perfect timing. I wanted to use my mercury glass candle holders from Marshalls & bring in some rustic outdoor details to create a rustic winter woodland dining room tablescape…

I wanted the centerpiece to be eclectic with no rhyme, reason, or pattern. I’m usually one for order & symmetry, but for this rustic winter woodland centerpiece I really wanted it to be more free spirit. If you have been falling on my Instagram at all you may know that something is going on in my life right now that I will be able to share soon, but in dealing with that I find it therapeutic to decorate & for this one I didn’t want to have any rules. I wanted to listen to music & just put this table together without worrying about how everything was spaced or having any order. I used some garland & pinecones from Michaels, some woodland deer from Target, candlesticks from Marshalls, & a table runner from World Market to put together this lovely tablescape that would be great for all winter, not just Christmas. That’s kind of what I love most about this tablescape is that it will last past the holidays & be great for the entire cold season.

This scale? I picked it up at the Grand Rapids Antique Market this past weekend. I got a few more treasure that I will be sharing with you very soon as well. I wanted to use this scale in our kitchen, but it wouldn’t fit in the spot I wanted it so I stuck it here for now.. not bad! That little globe ornament? Of course it’s from Target.

I shared a sneak peek on my Instagram of the table yesterday & people were very concerned about where our plates went. There are options in this, you could push back the greenery & make more room for the plates [there is actually more room than it looks like in the photos], or if you were having a dinner party the items could easily be removed and placed in the cabinet during dinner. I should have photographed some plates on the table as well to give an idea, but hopefully this helps.
