We did something crazy. & I love it! So, I was laying in bed the other day & when you look out of our bedroom door from the bed you can see the high ceiling from the living room downstairs on the first level. I was thinking about how we had the beam on the ceiling removed when we gutted the house & how I missed the character it gave & that we should add a beam there again. Then I got to thinking how we could DIY one, then that turned into what else could we DIY for up there, & then that eventually turned into how we could hang a ladder on the ceiling. Yes, we hung a ladder from our ceiling as a “faux ceiling beam”. I actually periscoped us doing this project this past weekend, so if you are not following us on periscope you might want to because we share room tours, sneak peeks of projects, & other fun life things. It’s super awkward so why not tune in? Find me on Periscope under Liz Marie Blog. Anyways, the ladder is up, but that’s about it. We plan to hang something from it or do something bigger, & we are also going to paint the hardware hanging it, but you know I had to share what it looks like before we do that…

What this area looked like while we were gutting the house…

& now with all of our progress…

We found this ladder on one of our junkin’ adventures & had it sitting in our garage for a few months waiting to be used. To hang the ladder we simply measured the space of the area we wanted & cut the ladder to size. We had to cut 10 inches off the bottom of our ladder. After that we found some studs in the ceiling. We then drilled holes for the eye hooks & screwed the eye hooks into the ceiling. We screwed eye hooks into the ladder to match up with the ones in the ceiling & hung the ladder up by connecting the ceiling eye hook & the ladder eye hook with an s-hook. So simple!

I think the ladder adds so much character to the house, we will be adding more to it later, but I wanted to share this quick update with you guys. What do you think? What do you think we should hang from the ladder? Also we are going to paint the hardware with metal paint [we were to impatient to do this before we hung it] either an oil rubbed bronze or black.
