You guys know I LOVE switching things up in our little cottage. I just love trying new things, new ways to style our home, & I love trying new things for you. A few weeks ago I was looking at some old doors in our garage & I asked Jose what he thought of making one of them a DIY hall tree for our “tiny entryway” Our Tri-level home barely has an entryway, but we like to create our own little entryway to store some of our outdoor gear we use regularly. Before we had this lovely DIY rustic coat rack that you can see [here], but I wanted something that we could store shoes in and hide them as well. Enter our DIY antique door hall tree…
A lovely functional piece of furniture in our entryway… just what we needed! & it was made from items that we already had. I should note that we have had our new front door sitting in our garage for a few months now & haven’t installed it yet.. stay tuned for that & don’t mind the old door with that lovely brass knob that doesn’t fit our home very well. One day we will finish renovating this house, but for now we are just having fun.
Mr. LMB didn’t think that a full post on how to make this lovely DIY hall tree was necessary, but he did want to add a few words below on how he went about it. But first to the most exciting part to me was the paint & decor. I painted the hall tree in Maison Blanche lime paint in white pepper [new favorite color!] & when it was dry I went over it with Maison Blanche white wax to seal it & give it more of an aged look. The shelf corbels I got from Home Depot, the hooks are from World Market & I actually waxed those as well, the large bag is from Painted Fox, The jacket & pumpkin pillow are from Target, The pillow & basket are from Michaels, the throw is from Marshalls, The metal garden sculpture is from HomeGoods, the plant is from Ikea, & the sign was purchased at Painted Farmgirl.
Here is what Mr. LMB had to say about building this beautiful DIY hall tree:
For this build we simply created a box on the door and framed it in so we could attach the box to the door securely and safely. The door was previously cut to fit wherever it hung, which was not square on the bottom, so we cut the bottom of the door square so it sits straight up and down. I had a few scraps of tongue and groove from his last two Farmhouse tables he built and that is what he used for the box. We stacked them on top of each other and covered the corners with left over casing from our home renovation scraps. The top is hinged so we can store our shoes inside. The shelf above is made by pre-fabricated corbels from The Home Depot. And that was it.
I hope you guys love our new DIY door hall tree! I love that our shoes are hidden away.. well, most of the time. & that we have a place to hang our coats & bags when we come home. I also love that this project was made from things that we already have. Those projects are the best right? I think he’s wrong – a FULL post IS necessary! : ) I understand how the top shelf would attach to the door but how did he make the bottom box piece? I’d love some more info on that. A friend of mine just bought a condo and this could make a great house warming gift.
