We are so happy to be back home in Michigan, where we grew up & with family. However, from time to time, we hurt by how bad we miss our downtown life back in New Bern & we are reminded by little things. Right before we moved, we were so sad that we were not able to bring to Michigan our beloved Fiddle Fig Leaf Tree. We originally drove nearly 2 hours on a whim for this tree, to Wilmington NC, after we purchased the tree, and a typical eastern North Carolina torrential downpour occurred, making it very fun getting it from the store into the Jeep. Such a fun memory of seeing Mr. LMB soaked from head to toe trying to fit it in our jeep. From the beginning this tree embodied NC and when we got it home in our Craftsman Drive home, it found a wonderful spot next to our master bedroom window. After only a few short weeks, the Fiddle Leaf made the move to the NC rental and found a lovely spot in the formal living room. A few weeks prior to moving we gave the tree to one of our friends and the tree made its way further south to Columbia, South Carolina.
In our new house, in Michigan, we have found a yet another Fiddle Leaf, to start this new journey in this Michigan home, yet help us bring a little memory of North Carolina into our lives. Although, this Fiddle Leaf tree is faux, it will bring memories to our house both new and old, and we are excited to have a perfect spot for it. We found this faux fiddle fig a few weeks ago at Home Goods actually.. can you believe that? I had been wanting to get a real one [Mr. LMB really wants a real one eventually] but this faux one looked so real & the maintenance would be so low that I couldn’t pass it up. I’m usually not a faux tree girl, so this is a big step for me.
This tree reminds us so much of North Carolina so it’s a happy little corner in our home. I think it fits well in our dining room, but I’ll probably be changing some decor out shortly to work around the tree better. We love it here in Michigan, but small reminders like this fiddle fig make us remember our happy little life in NC that we miss so much. What do you think of our fiddle fig? Your faux fiddle leave fig looks good and pretty realistic. However, you can grow a real one. If I can anyone can. I have two one I have had for three years. When I first bought it the leaves turned brown and I lost a lot. I did some research and here is what has worked for me.
Find a window that gets indirect light and put it in front of that window and leave it there. I have had it in an east facing window and in my new home it’s in a north facing window. Both, however, have great indirect light. I water them once a week. I water the oldest one, which is like a tree, two and a 1/2 cups of water and the smaller one a cup of water. As they grown incrementally increase the amount of water.
That is it. I bought one at home depot for $29.00 and my newest one, which I’ve had for about 9 months, I bought at Ikea.
It has worked for me and I am not at all good at keeping plants alive.

Just ordered a faux fiddle leaf from homedepot.com bc even tho we live in the outerbanks of NC my husband would rather spend money on a faux tree than to throw money out the door with this not-green-thumb. Aaaaaaand it arrived just days later it is so lovely I’m way more excited than I should be 🙂 Now to find a pot to put it in!

My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended up losing many months of hard work due to no back up.
