One of the reasons that I love painting furniture is that I love the challenge. I love the challenge to make the piece look completely different from how it look originally. The power of paint surprises me every time & I think that’s  why I love re-doing furniture so much. This past week I got some new Maison Blanche chalk paint colors & I was so excited to try them out. A lot of you [my amazing awesome talented lovely readers] have been asking me to use more color when I paint furniture. I listened! I may be starting out slow, but it’s a start none the less. I had quite a boring dresser that I wanted to spice up so I decided to try french blue & I kind of love how the dresser turned out…

& how the piece looked before I got my hands on it… 

& after I used the power of paint to give this dresser a new life…

How I got this look:

To achieve this look I painted two layers of french blue on the entire piece. I also I filled the holes where the old hardware was with wood filler [paintable wood filler works great.].  After the paint was dry I sanded the edges of the drawers & the entire dresser to give it more of an antique look. When I was done sanding I brushed a dark wax [also Maison Blanche] over the entire piece. I let the dark wax set for a couple of minutes & then took a rag & wiped all of the wax off. The wax sealed the piece & also deepened the color of the french blue a lot. For hardware I went with a long bar pull to really change up the look of the dresser & I’m kind of in love with the look. I styled this piece quickly in our guest bedroom to show you guys the makeover, but sadly this piece isn’t able to stay with us so it will be in my booth at Painted Farmgirl very soon.
