When moving into our new rental after selling our home, we ran in to the usual problem of some furniture not fitting & other rooms needing more furniture. One of those issues was our front sitting room needing a coffee table. We already had a coffee table for our living room, but the only other piece we had that would work had been sitting in our garage at the old house for a few years and used for storage. The coffee table was in bad shape, but with a little paint, tools, & the right safety gear we had the perfect wood top coffee table.

This coffee table had sat in our garage storing paint cans and other DIY accessories for over two years. It was in such bad shape, but I knew it had potential! & the table after it got a little love… 

With a few simple updates the table was as good as new! It doesn’t take a lot of time or effort to really breathe new life into furniture pieces, you just have to take the proper steps! 

First things first is buying the materials & drawing up your plans. For this coffee table we wanted to do a slatted wood top & a new paint job. I knew we were going to be using the saw for this project so I got the proper safety gear as well. I know when I share our DIY projects I don’t always mention the safety gear, but it’s so important! For this project I used my 3M™ Safety Products (disposable earplugs & as always my safety glasses). Other items used for this project is the 3M™ SandBlaster™ Pro sandpaper, wood planks, paint, & a paint brush. 

To get the wood plank top we cut some pine 1×2’s to the length of the inlay in the table. After we got the boards lying in the inlay I used some leftover paint {valspar oatmeal} & painted the boards with a light layer so that it was more like a stain for the boards. After that I gave the table a fresh coat of paint { Valspar antique white} to freshen up & give the table a new look. After it was all dry, we place the glass on top of the table again & we had ourselves the perfect little coffee table for our sitting room.
