You guys! This coffee table DIY has seriously been done since this past winter. Yes, & I have never blogged it… why? I don’t know because it’s seriously one of our favorite pieces of furniture in our home. This DIY World Market coffee table makeover was a process until we had it how we liked it & I still can’t believe that it used to look like the “before photo” above. We used the madera coffee table found at world market & completely made it custom for our home…

The Paint

Let’s start with the paint. Oh, the paint. This was the first piece that I ever used Miss Mustard Seeds Milk paint on & it probably wasn’t the best piece to first try the paint on. Since the World Market coffee table is veneer the milk paint had a hard time adhering to the surface & since the piece was so dark it needed 4+ layers to achieve the final color. The color I used is grain sack which is such a beautiful light gray. I feel like the milk paint does way better on real wood pieces & maybe a darker color would have helped as well. I love how the milk paint distressed on this piece! Use sandpaper block & the milk paint chipped in a really natural fashion. Then seal the piece with Miss Mustard seed’s furniture wax which I also loved. It went on the coffee table like butter & made the finish on the coffee table beautiful. Milk Paint Problems

A little bit about this side of the coffee table. This side sits in the sun all day & for some reason it makes the milk paint chip off of the coffee table & fall onto the floor. A little annoying because I am having to vacuum this rug a lot because of it, but I am not sure if that’s normal for milk paint to do or if it’s just on this piece. And again, it’s only on the side of the table that sits in the sun.

The Finished Product

This coffee table is perfect in our new rental living room which will be on the blog soon, & we’ve used it like this for almost a year now & we love how shabby & rough it is. We don’t have to worry about scratching, denting, or ruining it in any way because of how sturdy it is & because it has that lovely antique look to it. What do you think of the coffee table makeover?
