Hi friends! So, a few weeks ago I showed you our new “DIY small entryway”. By small, I mean small. Our house has an open floor plan so the little space by the door is the entryway we have to work with. Let’s not focus on how small it is, but instead make lemonade out of lemons & make it pretty! The entryway was cute before, but it was missing something. Since we are about to move out of this house I didn’t want to build something specific for the space because again we are moving in a few weeks {more on that here} & we wouldn’t have the piece for that space very long. So funny, because one day Mr. LMB  was cleaning our garage out & found a bench top that he had built a few months ago for a small bench we were going to use as a plant stand in our bedroom that we never finished. How big was it do you ask? Well, it was the perfect size for our little entryway! Coincidence? I think not. It was meant to be.

Doesn’t it just perk the whole space up a little bit? Say hello to our new shabby little bench….

Want to know something else that’s really cool? This bench was seriously so easy to make! Since we wanted the bench to look rustic we didn’t use any trim or anything fancy. We kept it super simple. To put the top together we laid the middle boards out & then created a boarder with the smaller boards around the edge. To attach them all together we placed support boards across the bottom on the two sides and in the middle {as seen in the photo below} & used a nail gun to secure it. For the legs we used legs we found at Lowes & leg anchors also found at Lowes. If you want to add things to the bench, you could add trim to hide where the legs are attached, but again, I loved the rustic look with out the trim.

For the painting process. I first started out with staining the whole piece special walnut from Minwax. After the stain dried I painted the legs and the boarder of the bench in antique white from Valspar. When the paint dried I took some sand paper and roughed up my entire paint job. After I was satisfied I sealed the piece with Miss mustard seed wax to seal the piece. That’s it! Super simple!

There is our lovely little rustic bench in our lovely little entryway. It’s so funny that we weren’t planning on doing anything in this spot, but out of a discarded top to a bench we created this little bench so quickly & easily yet it made a big difference.
