It’s no secret that I am obsessed with terrariums. Seriously, I love them & we have a few around our house. Yesterday I shared our spring dining room & the centerpiece of our buffet was a lovely shabby gray terrarium that I recently customized. I had almost sold the terrarium because I was a little over it & it didn’t really fit in anywhere until I thought of the idea to add legs & spice it up a little bit. You can take the same idea & add legs or add new legs to any piece that you have lying around.

Seriously this DIY is so easy. The hardest part was matching the legs to the existing stain of the terrarium. The terrarium was originally purchased from TJ Maxx a while ago with out any legs. I purchased the wooden legs at Lowe’s & I believe they were a little over a $1 a piece. To attach them to the terrarium I simply drilled holes in all four corners of the bottom of the terrarium & then placed anchors in each of the holes. The anchors allow the legs to be threaded through easily. You can use this method to add legs to dressers, trunks, & basically anything you can think of. Now the staining part was a little fun. I purchased Rust-oleums wood stain in driftwood thinking it would be a match for the terrarium. Fail. It was WAY too light. I already had Rust-Oleums stain in weathered gray on hand & decided to mix the stains on the legs & I had an almost perfect match! To add a more distressed look to the legs I used annie sloan’s dark wax once the stain was dry & I was done. What do you think of the match? I think the mix of these two stains is the best gray stain!

O, & were you wondering where I get my greenery from? Well, here’s a little secret. It’s mostly all fake! I really didn’t want the hassle of taking care of a ton of plants in our dining room so I went on the hunt for some beautiful faux greenery to use in our spring decor. Here is where I had the best luck: Michaels, Target, TJ Maxx, Ikea, Hobby Lobby,  & the real stuff like the sticks and the box wood I found in my yard. What do you think of the terrarium legs?
