I was so mean last week & I showed our Simple Winter Entryway on the blog with a sneak peek of this DIY clock. Well, as promised here is the tutorial & the full reveal. This is such a simple project & it has a huge impact on the space that it is in. I came up with this idea when I was desperate to replace the mirror that was in our entryway. I was so sick of the mirror & just the way it looked all together & I wanted a large piece of art in it’s spot. After a little brainstorming and a few ideas I remembered I had this cable spool pallet lying around begging to have something done to it, so rustic clock art it was. For now the clock is not functional & it’s not yet hanging on the wall, but all in good time & for now this lovely clock is just sitting on our entryway table making it a little prettier.
I got my wire spool pallet circle from a local business. You can call around to local places {i.e. electricians, lighting stores, hardware stores exd..} To start out the spool was already stained with minwax special walnut. I liked the fact that it had the dark base to start out with, but you can choose any wood finish base for this. You can also find spools in different sizes for this project, but the one I had is 4ft in diameter. I loved the large size of it!
Next I mixed two Behr paints together. I wanted the paint & the paint technique to look old & rustic so a bright white paint was not going to do the trick. I chose to mix Behr’s cozy cottage & snow fall together. It created a perfect antique white for me to use to dry brush the clock with.
To get this finish on the clock, it really is super easy. After I got my perfect white, I took my brush & dipped it in the paint. I scraped off all of the excess on the side of the cup a few times to make sure that the brush was dry. I then lightly brushed it onto the clock in upward motions with a very light hand so that there were no heavy spots of paint. I continued to dry brush the entire clock until I was happy with the coverage.
After the paint dried, I took my sander & lightly sanded the entire clock down for more of a worn & antiqued finish. After I was done sanding, I sealed the clock with annie sloan clear wax.
After the wax was dry, we took some bronze house address numbers that I had purchased from Lowe’s & simply screwed them onto the wood pallet to create our clock art. You could also paint the numbers on the piece, but I wanted the metal on wood look for our clock. For now this clock has no arms, but we will be getting some soon & I’m still in love with this piece with or without functional arms. We also want to hang it on the wall as well, but for now this clock is just setting on the DIY card catalog entry table looking all pretty & stuff.

What do you think of the DIY wood pallet clock? I am loving the new addition & I can’t wait to style this table around it. I’m also really excited for it to hang on the wall because I think it will add an even bigger impact. Let me know what you think of the clock in the comments below, find me on facebook, or chat with me on Instagram! Have a great day!
Beautiful! Will you be adding hands/working parts? If so, will you give a resource for buying those? Thanks! Great project!!

Hi! I just picked up 4 of these 4′ spool ends at a steal of $5 ea.! I went googling and arrived here. I LOVE your clock. You’ve done an amazing job. I had a question about the weight of it. I was hoping to make a clock and hang it , as you are meaning to do, but now that I”ve brought them home I find they are very heavy. Did your’s weigh a lot, and how did you get it up on the wall yet?
