I have made this detergent two years in a row. Last year I decided I would mix the ingredients in a clear plastic bag so I could see that the ingredients were mixed evenly. I found that a Reynolds oven bag ( I believe the turkey sized one) made a great liner for my 2 gallon glass canister. It was a good thing I had TWO of those bags, though, because the one I was mixing the ingredients in got a hole in it. I put the second bag in my glass canister and transferred the mixture from the bag with the hole. I didn’t lose much, I just swept it up into a clean dustpan and tossed it into the canister as well. The plastic oven bag solved the problem of the detergent hardening. I did occasionally have to do a little scraping with my scoop, but that’s all that was needed to get a scoop of powder, no need for a hammer and chisel. I’m sure closing off the bag in a loose knot or with a bread bag closure also helped keep the powder powdery instead becoming a fresh scented cinder block. I’m about to make another batch and use the Purex Fabulously Fresh crystals to add the fragrance. Thanks to Liz Marie for her great idea! It’s a keeper for me!

Has anyone used really high magnets? I’ve used my daughter’s magnets from her vagal nerve stimulator. I know some company sells these high-powered ones. Anyway, you should see the yuck that comes out of clothing. I’m talking clean clothes. You put one magnet on one side.. under the water line. The other on the other side. My theory why this works. I think the 2 magnets are pulling. In the process it pulls the dirt from the clothes. You should look into this. My personal opinions.
